Same here...
/usr/include/scsi/scsi.h is owned by kernel-headers 2.6.31.4-1
I'm guessing it's because of the new kernel-headers package. I haven't tried downgrading to the previous version as it involves downgrading glibc and other packages as well.

Perhaps we will have to wait this one out..............

I think you hit the nail on the head there. My desktop w/o the new kernel headers compiled vlc-git fine, but my laptop with the new headers fails (I was in the process of trying to install vlc-git on both systems).
I guess we have to wait it out until the vlc folks upgrade their systems to the new headers. It shouldn't take too long for them to fix.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Attempted to upgrade this date to VLC-1.0.2-5 abs PKGBUILD and aborted with the same failure posted previously.

Generated kernel-headers with scsi patch from abs testing and installed.
Generated VLC-1.0.2-5 from abs PKGBUILD and installed.
All is well...kudos to Giovanni...
Problem solved.
