Laptop without DM ..

Hey, SO i just got a laptop off my brother and installed my favourite thing on it, and took the configs from my desktop to run xmonad etc. But im kind of lost on the whole power managment and things with laptops. Currently im manually doing pm-hibernate/suspend, I think ive got it to suspend from lid down. But things like brightness changing im missing. Any pointers? I looked on the wiki but it needs updating, will be updating it some point. Ideally I want to do this as simply and minimally as possible.

Re: Laptop without DM ..

Use "xbacklight" to change brightness and bind it to some key combination.

acpid and laptop-mode-tools are what you need.

Re: Laptop without DM ..

there's a great meta-article for laptops here.

you'll probably want either cpufrequtils or powernowd for cpu scaling unless you always have the laptop plugged in

If you're using KDE, PowerDevil is a good thing. But I am not sure, there are some daemons in rc.conf needed. But in powerDevil, you can set it really easily :-)

Thanks for the GNU/Linux. EDIT:Thanks for the GNU/Linux, Linux guru, for the manuals and wikis.
