Huawei E270 not detected by NetworkManager

Hi to all,

After last upgrade of networkmanager (v0.7.999) the daemon does not detect my Huawei E270 3G Modem. It just not appear on the list of available connections. And starting networkmanager with "sudo NM_SERIAL_DEBUG=1 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon" does not provide info. It's like the modem is not there.

However, I can connect using wvdial.

Anyone having this issue?

Re: Huawei E270 not detected by NetworkManager

try install modemmanager. is also an optdepends of networkmanager.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I've also got problem, which may or may not be related, with the Huawei E620.  Networkmanager sees the device, but doesn't connect.  tail -f /var/log/everything.log on connecting the modem shows:

Excellent. It is working for me now. I think this should be included on the NetworkManager wiki page. I was searching everywhere and tried a lot of things before posting here.

Thanks!

Re: Huawei E270 not detected by NetworkManager

I also had a problem with this.

It was that the PolicyKit permissions where overridden with a NetworkManager update a while ago and with the ppp upgrade which is not compatible with NetworkManager.

For the first problem the symptom was in the user.log:

user.log:Feb 12 11:50:24 slavia2 Message: 'Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.6" (uid=0 pid=4823 comm="/usr/sbin/NetworkManager) interface="org.freedesktop.ModemManager" member="EnumerateDevices" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.ModemManager" (uid=0 pid=7105 comm="/usr/sbin/modem-manager))'

To fix it I went in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf and created a <policy group="network"> with the same stuff that's on <policy user="root"> element, go around the nm*.conf files and  org.freedesktop.ModemManager.conf files and do this as well. If you understand PolicyKit stuff you could probably make a better configuration (for my laptop, with only one user I don't mind that the network group has the same permissions as root in NetworkManager).

The second problem was with the ppp upgrade, even though the GSM modem appears correctly in NetworkManager, connecting would not work. In daemon.log you could see if there's this error:

Feb 12 11:17:42 slavia2 pppd[7551]: Plugin /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pptp-pppd-plugin.so is for pppd version 2.4.4, this is 2.4.5

To fix this I had to downgrade the ppp package.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to do so yourself, the wiki is open to everyone smile

Owain: open your own topic please. Your problem might be different, you can always link to this thread, but the OP's problem is solved; yours isn't.

Thanks, that solved my problem, now my Huawei E1752 is online again with 'ppp-2.4.4-1' smile

To other, here is also something about ppp-2.4.5-1 problem: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=707342

Nephastos
Regarding you mail about the ppp-2.4.4 package, then just use ABS (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Build_System) to create it, this is the best way.

Re: Huawei E270 not detected by NetworkManager

Now works ppp-2.4.5-1 for me again.

Maybe it's the new rp-pppoe update, there do it.
I have not edit some things, it just works.

upgrading rp-pppoe [#################################] 100%
>>> The kernel-mode plugin has a new place.
>>> It's now located under /usr/lib/rp-pppoe/rp-pppoe.so
>>> Change LINUX_PLUGIN to the new path in your /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf
