What did I do to mess up pacman?

neutral

No matter which mirror I'm using, pacman always throws out the following error:

error: failed retrieving file '{filename.pkg.tar.xz}' from {mirror} : Service not available, closing control connection

... but then it goes on to download the package and proceed as normal.  Sometimes it complains on every file; other times it only complains on one or two files.

This has been going on for a while now.  Pacman seems to work correctly, so I haven't been terribly concerned about it, but the error
messages are poking me in the eye.  I'm sure I probably pacman -Syu without paying attention at some point, which makes me a war criminal.  Any ideas?

Try commenting the failing mirror in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Re: What did I do to mess up pacman?

Post the output of

grep -i include /etc/pacman.conf

just to be sure.

That's just it, it does it with any mirror I've tried.  For the record, they are

http://mirrors.xmission.com/archlinux/
http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/
http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/d … archlinux/
http://mirror.cs.vt.edu/pub/ArchLinux/
http://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/archlinux/

(chosen based on the results of the rankmirrors script)

That script may be broken atm, don't pay attention to it. Add more mirrors to your mirrorlist and comment out any that are failing. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: What did I do to mess up pacman?

The same thing happened to me last night.   And because of this I was unable to install KDE because it would isntall a few files, then all of a sudden it would err on every file (service not available).  I tried multiple mirrors and got the exact same thing.  I didn't use rankmirrors, I just checked the mirror status page and tried mirrors that are up to date (i.e. last updated in the last 24 hours).  Since it was late, after having it fail on more then one mirror (each time the packages it failed on were in "extra") I decided to try again later on.  I haven't tried again yet (I'm at work) but I figured I'd browse the forum while I was on break to  make sure I wasn't the only one.

I realize my message isn't exactly the most helpful, but I just wanted to chime in and say I had the same problem too.
