Firefox hamburger menu loading delay

Wondering if anyone might be able to help me figure out why the main firefox hamburger menu is failing to load. Basically, when I click the hamburger menu in firefox, nothing happens. Then anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes later the menu will suddenly popup. Even if i'm on a different workspace, the menu will popup on whatever screen i'm on. It only seems to be affecting my machines with pure arch and doesn't appear to be related to a specific gpu driver or dm. I've not been able to replicate the issue on other arch based distros, but it seems to be affecting both intel based igpu and nvidia gpu and both desktop and laptop. Also i have replicated with a virtual machine on the nvidia desktop (without gpu passthrough), so using mesa with libvirt. It's the strangest thing. No logs in journal or dmesg.

All affected machines are fully updated. I am using firejail, but the issue is happening when running firefox without firejail too. There are some logs in xsession-errors, but they seem to be unrelated and only show up when firefox is getting blocked for other things inside firejail.

I have tried creating new profiles without any extensions and it's still happening there. I've tried re-installing firefox and also tried refreshing the profile and nothing works. This started about a month ago out of the blue. One thing I noticed is that if I leave the computer for awhile and come back this is the only time I can replicate the issue purposefully. Other times it is random, but seems to happen more often when I'm on another screen or using a different application for some time and then come back to firefox. Once the menu finally does popup, then the menu will work reliably while I'm using firefox, but again, after leaving for a bit and coming back the menu will not load again. Also, if I close firefox then open it back up the menu will work after that.

I've also tried installing firefox developer version with no extensions and it also is affected.

As a side note, I also have thunderbird installed and the menu for thunderbird is not affected. Actually no other menus for any of my other applications are affected.

forgot to mention that i'm using xfce on all the systems.

This started about a month ago out of the blue.

https://blog.xfce.org/ mentions xfce 4.20 was released on dec 15 2024 and arch packages were updated to it before xmas, test with another DE/WM ?

Thanks for the info. I've already updated all my physical machines since then, but I may be able to restore one of the vm's to an older date prior to xfce 4.20 and test that...

I've tested with both compiz and xfwm4 with the same results. Have not tested on a different DE..

Surprised nobody else is having this issue. Starting to wonder if I may have some bigger problems...

Think I found the issue. Seems that FF is trying to connect to "firefox.settings.services.mozilla.com" when I click on the menu. Apparently I was blocking that website in an application firewall.. Looks that the menu is erroring out because it can't reach that site.
