No sound on a2dp even though HSP/HFP works perfectly

I have been having a problem with my bluetooth headphones, they work perfectly on handsfree mode and I can take calls without issues, but as soon as I change to a2dp the sound stops working, even though the controls (pause/unpause, skip, back, and volume control) work fine. It was working on Ubuntu but one day it stopped working even before I switched to Arch. It worked on the live usb back when I installed Ubuntu, but now if I try it it doesn't, that made me think it was a hardware issue so I bought a dongle, but it's the same. I can confirm that both the built in and the dongle work on Windows, so I'm inclined to believe it's a software problem.

What's strange is that it worked for a time yesterday, with me having done nothing except maybe updating the system, but it's back to not working today. It could be a problem with my headphones but because they work well in Windows I don't believe that's the case.

I'm using gnome with bluez version 5.83, and the kernel version 6.15.3-arch1-1. Acording to dmesg the firmware is loading correctly ("rtl_bt/rtl8761bu_fw.bin" for the dongle, a TP Link UB500, and rtl_bt/rtl8852cu_fw_v2.bin for the built in).

I had a similar issue and for me it was because wireplumber wasn't running. Just needed to do systemctl --user enable --now wireplumber
