Nvidia 580.76.05

Hi,
I see this is in extra-testing now

don't push this to stable , its very broken and causes all gtk4 apps when using the default vulkan renderer to crash on exit and can cause gnome to crash.

Re: Nvidia 580.76.05

@snx9 did you actually test if the issue is also present even though the maintainer applied a fix/workaround?

Re: Nvidia 580.76.05

Sorry for this and the late reply , it works with the fix now.
I had some override of that GSK_RENDERER env variable that i had set to vulkan

hope nvidia fixes their driver soon so that we can use the vulkan renderer again.

Yes, they pushed it to stable, despite having the GTK4 bug, and despite the Changelog saying it is fixed. Although it is a sign of the disorganisation at nvidia, they acknowledged the issue on their forums and said the fix wil be in the next 580 revision. Hopefully this will happen quickly.

To clarify, it's two separate bugs. They are presumably related.

In attempting to fix (or having actually fixed per the release notes):

https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/5 … /311721/37

...which I initially reported and been nagging on for months, they've inadvertently caused the more major issue:

https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/5 … e/341308/4

...which has since been root-caused, and a fix committed, but that did not make the cutoff for the most recent 580 release.

It will be in the next 580 drop:

https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/5 … 341205/111

But yeah, how the release occurred, as a Production Branch driver, with such a serious regression, is boggling to the mind.

Thanks for the info, did not know this.

Yes it is boggling the mind, considering how easy it is to test it.

Another bug, specific to Indiana Jones and the GC: with the 580 drivers the shape of objects you can interact with does not highlight anymore. No contours. I reported it - they opened a ticket for it. They communicate more with the community, which is a god thing.

For historical completeness, I've confirmed the GTK4 Vulkan hang-on-exit regression is fixed...

...with the newly minted 580.82.07 Production Branch driver.

Marked as SOLVED upstream.
