Re: Wayland + GNome with nvidia-470xx drivers segfaults

08: Internal micro-controller halt (newer drivers)
62: GPU stopped processing

W/o context it's hard to tell why that might have happened.
But you're now also no longer running on the nvidia GPU anyway (but either on software or intel), no?

I have two monitors connected to nvidia DVI ports. I have no monitor connected to intel GPU yet. I want to try connecting main monitor to iGPU and the second one to nvidia.

I don't quite understand what the information in glxinfo and eglinfo means.
On the one hand, glxinfo says it uses the Nvidia GPU for rendering.
On the other hand, eglinfo says it uses llvmpipe.
I understand that Wayland uses egl, but I don't know when glx is used.

If I try the separate monitor setup, will each GPU render only on the monitor connected to it?
Does this mean I'll only get hardware acceleration on the Intel monitor?

About the freezes, while in xorg many times after reboot and doing normal things: moving a window from one monitor to the other, playing a video, or just opening nautilus I got the xid 62 error and the process responsible was nvidia.
But this is not what worries me.

Re: Wayland + GNome with nvidia-470xx drivers segfaults

I think I have the same issue on my laptop with a 4080 mobile GPU. GNOME apps work fine, since they can just run with the integrated Intel GPU, but I have issues around certain apps that are more sensitive to this issue like OBS (doesn't open) or Firefox (WebGL force-disabled.)

Re: Wayland + GNome with nvidia-470xx drivers segfaults

The OP is struggling w/ a GBM incapable nvidia driver - that's not your problem at all.

glxinfo shows only the working Intel GPU.

prime-run glxinfo # nvidia-prime package

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME

@injiniero

On the one hand, glxinfo says it uses the Nvidia GPU for rendering.
On the other hand, eglinfo says it uses llvmpipe.

Because you told libglvnd to use that w/ "__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia"

I understand that Wayland uses egl, but I don't know when glx is used.

GLX clients, nothing wayland but maybe some xwayland GL clients. For some the implementation is configurable (egl, glx, vulkan)

If I try the separate monitor setup, will each GPU render only on the monitor connected to it?
Does this mean I'll only get hardware acceleration on the Intel monitor?

The renderer is independent from the crtc provider, you'll be running what's called https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME#Reverse_PRIME (ideally you should™ not have to configure anything for that)
Everything will be rendered (accelerated) on the intel chip and then the relevant framebuffer is copied to the nvidia one for display.
There're downsides w/ this approach because you'll have to keep the second GPU powered and vblank synchronization can be an issue.
So if you can, you'd rather want the outputs connected to the intel chip.

the process responsible was nvidia

No, that's the kernel module wink

Re: Wayland + GNome with nvidia-470xx drivers segfaults

Ah, alright. I've been reading a lot of the forums recently after all the GNOME 49 issues and this happened to catch my eye as I've had a similar issue for months and nothing I've tried has fixed it.

Re: Wayland + GNome with nvidia-470xx drivers segfaults

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Open_B … re#Wayland - do you have qt6-wayland?
And what happens if you https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Firefo … able_WebGL ?

Either way, this is OT here - please open a new thread for this.

Re: Wayland + GNome with nvidia-470xx drivers segfaults

I have connected the main monitor to the DP output of the iGPU and the screen goes blank. I have disconnected the second monitor from the nvidia dGPU and still no output in the main monitor.
I've checked the BIOS settings for the graphic card and the iGPU multimonitor is enabled. My motherboard is an Asus Z87-Deluxe
I think that despite of the BIOS settings the motherboard gives priority to the dGPU and closes the iGPU output for some reason I don't know.

I don't want to pull off the nvidia card from the motherboard just for testing the iGPU.

I'm happy now with my Wayland session and I have solved the blender problem launching it with

WAYLAND_DISPLAY="" blender

forcing it to use xorg into Wayland.

I haven't been able to fix the fps drop in Firefox, but it's not serious and I'll be able to live with it until I decide whether to change the graphics card or I am forced to do so.
