Re: [Solved]GRUB error: No such device

Well, now it gives me a different error; some progress!

Boot sector signature not found (unbootable disk/partition?)

Re: [Solved]GRUB error: No such device

Okay, so I went in and gave up. So I went and dd'ed the MBR and partition table of both disks and started over.

I am installing Grub again.

I went through menu.lst.

menu.lst says that the root of Grub is hd1,0

I am presented now where I will install Grub:

/dev/sda
/dev/sdb
/dev/sda
/dev/sda1
/dev/sdb
/dev/sdb1
/dev/sdb5

That is the list exactly as it tells me. Which one should I install it on, because I want it to work this time after the 4th try.

Re: [Solved]GRUB error: No such device

Well, I have solved the issue, finally...

I installed Grub to the MBR of the first hard disk (hd0) then just went into menu.lst and changed the root line to (hd1,0) and it all worked.

Thank you for the help though guys, I learned a lot about Grub today smile.

PS:  I want to mark this thread as solved. I come from Ubuntuforums where you do that under "thread tools". How would I do that on the arch forums.

Looks like you did it already. Editing the OP is the "proper" way around here.

Glad to hear its resolved.
