Excellent question! The fact is that there was a bug in the get_uptime() function that returned the wrong data, so I had it return random numbers just for that shot. It's now working, though. wink

@Jasonwryan, who is obviously power crazy, like a police officer pulling someone over for doing 52mph in a 50

I refer you to the definintion of a thumbnail, I See no mention of a maximum size.
http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/view/ … _gb0862160

A few points

I have posted this size for months and it has never been a problem.
If someone cannot download 100kb (a 14th of a floppy disk!) then they should not be opening a screenshot thread.
You totally removed my link! You could have just removed the thumbnail.
Some people post three shots, surely this is the same (in kb terms) as a bigger thumb.
Some people quote other people's shots meaning even more downloading at  least if the original was on a previous page never visited.
The terms you so politely pointed out in the first post have changed since I looked at maybe 3 yrs ago, I am sorry I don't check EVERY month to see if the terms have changed!
I will gladly reduce in future months now I know the rules, but your total removal was very unecessary.

I am peeved but thats life, I will get over it.  Rant over

And if people get such an epic meltdown over a simple mod edit, they shouldn't be posting on a forum. The edit gave you the opportunity to check the OP, which is just a few lines long & which you did not read it after posting your second screen. Not only is it utterly bizarre to get so upset over something so mundane, you're still in the wrong here.

Your points are noted.

I asked you politely to read the first post - you chose not to.

Look at all the other posts in these threads over the last couple of months -- almost everyone is posting thumbnails. So most of the community seem capable and willing to follow the guidelines that are there for all of us.

Everyone who is part of this community should be able to visit this thread, load the pages irrespective of the speed of their connection and click through to view those images they are interested in.

The mods will continue to delete those images that do not conform to the guidelines.

Re: August 2010 Screenshots

Hi,

Trying to play devil's advocate here, and would like to see from gazj's point of view.

I believe he is aware of the first post and the "regulations", and knows what's a "thumbnail" is. The point of the thumbnail is to give a preview of what the full resolution picture looks like. If the thumbnail is too small and can't really see what's going on, what is the point? His thumbnail size (considering the actual window size) was definitely comparable to the rest of the posts you've accepted to show. As gazj said, if you are worried about the file size, then perhaps you should also give a restriction on how many thumbnails are allowed for each post.

Also, the guidelines is for single window sizes. In gazj's case, it was two window spaces side to side. Perhaps there is a separate guideline for that?

If you read the first post, you will see there is a sentence to that effect, which I quoted when I deleted his second post.

I'll quote it here again so we are all clear:

Posting Guidelines wrote:

For bigger sizes (and especially for multi-monitor setups), we ask you to keep in mind not everyone uses broadband, and use an even smaller size (10% of a Full HD setup will still be 192x180, for example).

Re: August 2010 Screenshots

It seems I have conveniently ignored the sentence about multi-monitor setups (since it doesn't apply to me).

I should just let the mod do his job. I appreciate your effort!

Re: August 2010 Screenshots

Finally, it's done! I got rid of conky and now I only use awesome, vicious and some custom vicious widgets I made today like POP3 mail checker and xmms2 status support (though, it's not in the screenshot. I have to figure out how to change the icon for playing/stopped/paused status without using a second module for that. Using text only takes too much space...)

Anyway, I'll work on them some more and post them both here on the forums, in case someone wants them.

Clean and dirty:

Now I need to get some sleep...

I did read it but by this time I was already hacked off.

Agreed I have no problem with the guidelines just the complete removal of my link, my screenshot script has been changed to reflect the rules.

Agreed, remove the image not the entire link.

Sorry I was off, I was hacked off at the time and I was in the wrong. (An awful week at work probably did not help)  But I did think I only bent the rules slightly and not to my knowledge.  The punishment just seemed quite harsh.  No hard feelings and again sorry for being an ass.

Re: August 2010 Screenshots

Finally!  I've got my Arch the way I like it!  This is my first contribution in the screenshot thread.  It's compiz standalone, urxvt, mpd, conky, and Cairo-dock.  It's on a "netbook."  Two-finger scrolling works great as well.

Cube rotate is the screensaver.  It's in the AUR.

Seeing the Starcraft & Counter Strike icons on your desktop, I presume you're using WINE? How's the performance?

Just a good wall!

Counter strike 1.6 gives better performance under wine than in native windows! Source though runs 20 fps slower than windows but everything works perfect so does starcraft broodwar.

As does Starcraft II. Three shaders missing, otherwise en par with Windows.
