I also remember having trouble in the past with BFQ and I consistently use deadline pretty much everywhere. After reading your report I don't see myself going back to BFQ anytime soon.

I dunno, I haven't done that much testing, I wouldn't take my anecdotal evidence as reason not to try it. It could still be the presence of my fault SATA controller combined with bfq doing it. Who knows?
