Re: [new] wmii-cvs - updated May 4th, 2005

heh, I've been using ratpoison... my WMII interest dropped off as the project seems to be going a different direction than I was looking for...
I will still provide the devel package until wmii-1 at which point I'll submit it to AUR

Re: [new] wmii-cvs - updated May 4th, 2005

last time I tried rat poison it wasn't quite good enough for me. I'll try wmii later, and if I like it I can maintain it in AUR until a TU adopts it...

There's a new release today if you'd like to package it... although they still say stable on Jun 1. It looks interesting, I want to at least try it. WMI is working just fine for me right now though... Tiling is so much cooler with the screen real estate I have now. ;-)

Hey, I've built the latest version... I can't believe you don't like it. The reason wmi and wmii are always changing is that these guys are really thinking!

There's a really nice man page now describing how it works. Not the best English, but it gives a good intro into the pseudo-filesystem and the custom layouts.

I changed my mind, these layouts take more keypresses than wmi splitting, even if you define lots of prearranged ones. sad Maybe I'll try ratpoison again... or back to flux.

Re: [new] wmii-cvs - updated May 4th, 2005

A note, I will be changing my mind again... I talked to Uriel, the wmii head dude on IRC (yeah, ME!) and he says that resizing tiled layouts is currently broken.

My main issue with wmii was that if you had, for example, a horizontally split tiled layout, and resized one side, it wouldn't automatically shrink the other half. This is a major pain, since resizing is what I'm all about. But apparently, this will change in future versions.

I mention this so you don't give up hope on wmii yet. :-) For now, I'm sticking with wmi.
