However, is this now the default behaviour in KDE 4.6? It seems a bit strange to make users edit this file in order to easily mount removable storage. And I'm sure many people might assume that as long as they were part of the storage group, they should be able to mount things auto-magically. Or will the final packaging of KD 4.6, when its released, have that file modified in order to let normal users mount removable storage?

Hi,

There's a kcm module to modify polkit policies without touching text files. It's not released yet but there's a PKGBUILD on AUR to build git version : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43984
Also I have same problem as you with my soundcard and it's a HDA Intel Connexant too. The workaround is to install and use pulseaudio.

Re: [kde-unstable] KDE 4.6

For me flash is broken for rekonq and konqueror - can't find the plugin, but works ok in firefox.

Anyone else seeing this?

@hellnest yes my system tray is screwed also.  If you delete it and add a new one it comes back with default settings, and if you don't touch them they remain, but only for the current session.

In latest comments Thomas provided us a patch, but there was no one who would test it. So i applied the patch to kde 4.6 kwin sources, compiled everything, and boom no performance issues at all! everything is even smoother than it was with 4.5.

No problem with flash here in Konqueror (both engines).

About the second issue, see the bug report:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261113

I have a workaround that works good here. You must edit plasma-desktop-appletsrc and plasma-desktoprc and move all entries about the systray from desktoprc to desktop-appletsrc.

In plasma-desktoprc you should see some entries in the following form:

[Applets][78]
geometry=166,0,24,24
immutability=1
plugin=battery
zvalue=0

[Applets][78][Configuration]
...

Then check plasma-desktop-appletsrc and find the panel containment and applet-id of the systemtray (just search in your text editor for "systemtray" and note the [Containments][x][Applets][y] numbers).

Now all you have to do is append [Configuration] to [Containments][x][Applets][y] i.e. [Containments][x][Applets][y][Configuration] and then copy paste the [Applets] from plasma-desktoprc.

So you finally add the following entries in plasma-desktop-appletsrc:

[Containments][x][Applets][y][Configuration][Applets][78]
geometry=166,0,24,24
immutability=1
plugin=battery
zvalue=0

[Containments][x][Applets][y][Configuration[Applets][78][Configuration]
...

TL;DR: just wait for this bug to be fixed: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261113

Re: [kde-unstable] KDE 4.6

heya,

Hmm, should I take it that nobody else is experiencing the same unable-to-suspend issues as me? (Lenovo X200, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel 945GM IGP).

The "powerdevilupowerbackend.desktop" file mentioned in post #99 and #100 here doesn't exist for me, and a grep for "InitialPreference" in /usr/share/kde4/services didn't return anything relevant.

I'm just hoping somebody else with the same chipset as me could confirm whether it works or not? Or whether anybody at all could just say "yes, suspend is working for me in RC1"...lol.

Cheers,
Victor

Hi, "yes, suspend is working for me in RC1". tongue tongue
I have no problems with suspend. I do not have HAL installed/running, only upower. (nvidia 330m on an i5 laptop).

The file you mention is not in RC1. It was removed upstream because powerdevil backend loading was implemented differently.

Don't know what you want us to tell you, but yeah, suspend is working for me. Although sometimes I have to use 'pm-suspend' from the terminal, but mostly it just works. Does it work for you outside of KDE?

Re: [kde-unstable] KDE 4.6

heya,

I tried running

sudo pm-suspend

manually and it seems to just flash the screen black once, then goes back to where it was again (wicd does lose the network connection though).

This shouldn't have anything to do with hal now not running, right? Hmm, I could have sworn this was all working fine under KDE 4.5 (although there's undoubtedly other changes to my system apart from just KDE, since I've re-formatted since then).

Any other troubleshooting steps I could try?

Cheers,
Victor

If pm-suspend doesn't work then it's most likely a problem with your setup and not KDE itself.

You could give this article a look and see if there's anything that helps.

Thanks ! That is good news, I go so frustrated by the KWin performance in 4.6, compared to 4.5, since it was supposed to be (much?) better in this version. I hope they'll implement it (somehow), since I don't think it is a patch that would be applied on the Archlinux kdebase-workspace officially hmm

ok, I spoke to adawit, and he told me that there was an essential commit that did not make it into RC 1. Things should be normal again in the next release :-)

I use a samsung NC10 (atom N270, intel 945GME). For me suspend  (pm-suspend) and hibernate (pm-hibernate) both work ok from console or acpid but i can confirm that they don't work if i click to  "sleep" or "hibernate" in the popup that come up when i click on the battery icon in the systray. Actually in these cases it behaves like when i click in kmenu\leave\lock.

But for this i use acpid because it's desktop manager independent.

I also have the systray problem: sometimes icons disappear. And some usb memory stick work some other don't work for the permission problem already reported.

same here. Happens since I upgraded akonadi (from extra/kdesupport-akonadi 4.5.82 to kde-unstable/akonadi 1.4.90-1) to keep kontact from crashing at startup (cf. #261187). However, I can't find any newer strigi packages by "pacman -Ss strigi"

Great to hear that! You should post a comment in that bug report to make developers sure that its really working.

Done!

BUT i still got issues.

1)The kdeinit 100% CPU issue: it seems to be triggered if I kill X with Ctrl+alt+backspace. Hmm...
2)strigi using 100% CPU: haven't found why it still does that. I have uninstalled everything kdepim related, except the kdepim libraries which are runtime dependencies for kdelibs, impossible to uninstall. It is closed of course within Systemsettings.

New issue: not able to suspend using the "Sleep" button, like the other member before have already mentioned, even with HAL enabled (I haven't closed it, since I regularly use K3B)

This KDE SC version doesn't like my system. Disappointment.
