Why is vnc protocol removed from krdc? Do you know when they will implement it again?

The upstream site talks about the VNC support; I removed rdesktop from depends thinking it wasn't needed anymore (no output in cmake)
Should be fixed in kdenetwork-krdc-4.85-3, let me know.

Thank you for your fast response. Still no luck with 4.5.85-3. Only rdp and test plugin are available in krdc.

I managed to enable vnc support after compiling krdc and manually copying krdc_vncplugin.so and kcm_krdc_vncplugin.so to /usr/lib/kde4/ and krdc_vnc.desktop and krdc_vnc_config.desktop to /usr/share/kde4/services/
These files are not included in your package.

I don't know how you built them because I had to add a patch to build them. Anyway, they are in kdenetwork-krdc 4.5.85-4.

I have successfully recompiled kdebase-workspace using a patch from reviewboard and after messing a little bit with policykit-1 and creating a .pkla policy file, I can now successfully change brightness through powerdevil without HAL.
I can provide the modified PKGBUILD along with the patch, however right now there is an error in the CMake configuration about a file missing so I created that one.
I believe it will be commited soon after it gets reviewed and hopefully before RC1 gets tagged.
If anyone is eager to try it just tell me and I will post the needed files.

if i have enough time, i'll be glad to try this

ARCHLINUX+KDE frameworks 5.3 (working great !)

@zephyr
share everything, I could release it officialy in [kde-unstable]

Grab all files from ABS, svn and:
PKGBUILD: http://pastebin.com/Uu6jUX79
fix-upower-backlight.patch: http://pastebin.com/YyZM1PSz
backlight_helper_actions.actions: (This is the file I created)
[org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.brightness]
Name=Read Backlight Brightness
Description=Read Backlight Brightness using kernel interface
Policy=yes
[org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.setbrightness]
Name=Set Backlight Brightness
Description=Set Backlight Brightness using kernel interface
Policy=yes
Now about PolicyKit permissions. This step is needed otherwise you will need to enter a password a lot of times to read and set brightness.
I created a file /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/10-brightness.pkla
[Read and set Backlight Powerdevil Permissions]
Identity=unix-group:power
Action=org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.*
ResultAny=no
ResultInactive=no
ResultActive=yes
It simply says that anyone in the power group can use the helper to write into /sys/class/backlight/* .
I think this should be included in the package. I believe it replicates quite nicely the classic group approach.
It can be overriden by a new .pkla in /etc for example granting permissions only to one user if someone needs greater security/control.
Thanks for the fast replies and work bash:)

I'll look into. Anyway, you should be able to set permissions using polkit-kde-kcmodules
EDIT: Uh, that patch is not applied upstream. Sorry, but I'll not apply it because is against Arch (and my) policy.

kdebase-workspace (and with it all of KDE) doesnt depend on libxklavier anymore, is this intentional?

If anyone needs it, they can test it using instructions above.
Otherwise wait for RC1 or 4.6 final.

I got this in dmesg only the first time i booted since the upgrade:
kwrited[1791]: segfault at f8316b8d ip b6d7c21a sp bfbf5024 error 5 in libc-2.12.2.so[b6d10000+145000]
but i thought it was due to Allan's new toolchain.
Turns out its KDE.

And another thing. Ktorrent is broken due to a so name bump in libktorrent.

I'm trying to run kubeplayer (http://salout.github.com/blog/2010/12/1 … layer.html) which fails to find libsmokebase.so.3 which was part of kdebindings-smoke 4.5.4-1, in kdebindings-smoke 4.5.85-1 this file doesnt exist anymore...

Yeah, i didnt go through the whole thread, no worries.
It would've been surprising being the first and only one who had noticed.

Hi! I have a little problem mounting: I put an older drive in, and got this:
org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.PermissionDenied: Authentication is required
But it doesn't show any authentication dialog or something.... works with usb drives, but this is ATA. Obviously a permission problem, but not sure how to fix it.

Oops, i guess I posted a little too quickly, found a solution:
in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks.policy changed:
<action id="org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount-system-internal">
<description>Mount a system-internal device</description>
<description xml:lang="da">Montér en intern enhed</description>
<message>Authentication is required to mount the device</message>
<message xml:lang="da">Autorisering er påkrævet for at montere et fil system</message>
<defaults>
<allow_any>no</allow_any>
<allow_inactive>no</allow_inactive>
<allow_active>auth_admin_keep</allow_active>
<allow_active>yes</allow_active>
</defaults>
</action>
But still don't understand why it didn't pop up an authentication dialog asking the admin password.........
