So, Cortex command is working fine, it seems. The others still don't, and I now I have the s3tc stuff installed. I don't have any hopes for Braid on this computer and I guess Machinarium is not working because it is flash, and I can't watch any flash files fullscreen. Is there a way to start Machinarium so it doesn't go fullscreen?
Starting Revenge of the Titans also leads to just a black screen with nothing happening even after many minutes. Is there some kind of log file for that game that I could post, I didn't find any?
For Osmos, it also just shows a black screen and I did exchange the font or rather I used the AUR package. It always stops at this message:Log opened on Tue Dec 21 20:31:36 2010 Commandline: ./Osmos.bin32 Preinitializing game: HEMI version 1.6.0 1314 Localization: using language "de" Localization: loaded Osmos-de.loc Arch: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.73GHz OS: Linux 2.6.36-ARCH (#1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Dec 10 20:01:53 UTC 2010) Using sound Showing splash Using fullscreen mode: 1280 x 800 Not using vsync Initializing GLRenderDevice... OpenGL version: 2.1 Mesa 7.9 Initializing game Initializing GLRenderer... Loading textures Loading fonts Backed up stats to Stats/Backup/Osmos_0002.sta
Never goes any further than that, any ideas?
I'm having the same issues as you but just until the second start of the game. On first start, it worked pretty well.

Try to run it exclusively in its own x-server with xinit from tty2?
I tried xinit and it didn't seem to work at all this way. I needed to run it from my actual gdm session. If full-screen mouse issues were apparent, alt-tab out and back to it seemed to fix it.

Hi!
I have some trouble with playing 'osmos' and 'revenge of the titans' on arch, some time after I start these games my laptop freezes completely. I can play these games without problems on my windows partition, so I guess its a driver-related (gallium?) issue?
My laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon x300 card, arch is up to date as of today.
ANy ideas?

If anyone is unable to buy the bundle I'm happy to purchase it for $2 for about 5 people
Anyone want a copy? This is not a trade or anything, I like supporting these things and this will make people happy!

You can now download the first bundle too for free!! Very nice
edit: if you bought the second bundle, of course

Anyone else have issues with Braid being in full-screen mode and not allowing any window manager key commands to go through?
I typically game on a second virtual desktop, but I have to fully exit Braid to check my browser window
New version of Braid has a windowed mode, but with it being such an immersive game musically and visually, I'd prefer to have it fullscreen -- just able to Alt+Tab from it or switch desktops.
Oh, and bug spotted -- switching virtual desktops with Braid in windowed mode causes Braid to stop playing any sound, even once you switch back.

So I've given up on Braid and I've moved onto Cortex Command since it will hopefully run on my netbook. I get this problem though:

I'm not sure what I need to do. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
I'm also wondering what you all suggest from the Humble Indie Bundles (since I now own both, and am ecstatic about it) that I should try to download and play on my netbook (I'm on vacation and separated from my Tower until the 30th). I assume someone made PKGBUILDs for the originals, so hopefully I won't get any trouble from the old ones, but I'll take any suggestions.

Edit: I spoke too soon. Killing xcompmgr (compositing) made Braid play great with any setting. So I have a new question: is there a way to make Braid play nicely with compositing?
Old post:
Braid is running really slowly for me. I thought I had the same problem as grogers, but it turns out braid just takes forever to even load for me without the -windowed and -half flags.
My card is an nVidia Quadro NVS 140M. It's not super powerful, but it seems like it should be good enough for Braid. Interestingly, it ran smooth *once* for the title screen only when I ran it this way: braid -windowed -half -vsync -no_music . I can't get it to run smoothly anymore, though. I always get about 3 fps. I get an alsa underrun error when I don't use the -no_music option, but the fps doesn't change regardless. I have lib32-nvidia and lib32-alsa-lib installed.
Any ideas? LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose doesn't give me any messages.

It's not a compositing issue in general, it is specific to xcompmgr. I've tested it both with metacity and xfwm compositing, both work perfectly fine.

I figured out how to install Cortex Command, but I'm still having the same problem as before where I can't use any keyboard shortcuts and the game appears mostly off screen. Is there a windowed mode, as there is in Braid, that might fix this?

The fonts and resolution support of Cortex Command are pretty bad; so bad that I don't even play it. That's disappointing since it's the only game in the bundle intended for play with a gamepad.
The issue with Revenge of the Titans and the mouse just seems to go away after moving the mouse around the screen for a while. I'm using awesomewm.

You're right. cairo-compmgr has a similar issue, which is annoying (I use xmonad). With kwin + its built-in compositing, the game plays smoothly but always defaults to -half (can't figure out how to disable that). Interesting...

A few days ago I tested "Revenge of the Titans" on another computer and it was a lot of fun, so I'd like to get it running on my computer as well. I've found the log file with the error message so maybe somebody understands what that means:

I looked for the error message on google, but only found few results. Also I tried to run the windows version via wine (yeah, I'm really desperate!) but that didn't work either.

If it goes into fullscreen, yet is displaced off the screen, try using your monitor to auto adjust the picture. I'm not sure what keyboard shortcuts you're talking about, but Alt + Enter can be used to toggle fullscreen, or you can change the setting in the options menu once you reach that point.

bought it.
tried revenge of the titans. boy this is hard game. it's so hard to predict which route the titans will take (and hence, optimally invest in cannons and roadblocks)
another thing bothering me is when you have clicked on a building to deploy you need to press esc before you can collect money from refinaries. and it's hard to figure out what research to do
but hey, for a game still in beta it's looking good. now let's try the others..

braid just dies for me. no output, nothing.
also with -windowed

osmos works pretty well, except i can't put it in a specific workspace, it always shows up in any workspace i switch too. and it doesn't support --help

[SOLVED FOR ME]
Hi, I'm using radeon open source driver with my AMD 6970.
This is the list of games I'm having issues with:
FrozenSynapse : installed from AUR , returns this : /usr/bin/frozensynapse: line 3: 1327 Segmentation fault ./FrozenSynapse $@
Revenge of the Titans : installed from AUR simply does nothing (no console output at all)
Please note that :
# pacman -Ss jre
extra/jre7-openjdk 7.b147_2.0-5 [installed]
Free Java environment based on OpenJDK 7.0 with IcedTea7 replacing binary plugs -Full Java runtime environment - needed for executing Java GUI and Webstart programs
extra/jre7-openjdk-headless 7.b147_2.0-5 [installed]
Free Java environment based on OpenJDK 7.0 with IcedTea7 replacing binary plugs - Minimal Java runtime - needed for executing non GUI Java programs
Games that work fine: Bit.Trip Runner, Dungeons of Dredmor, Edge and SpaceChem.
In this SAME PC, I'm running kubuntu 11.04 in another partition and all the games work, main differences coming to my mind are that in kubuntu I have the proprietary video driver installed instead of the open one, and on this Arch installation I don't have flash installed, neither an open version, nor the closed one.
So, are you aware of a relationship between my configuration and the problems I'm having with those two games?
Thanks
Edit: Revenge of the Titans now works, added lib32-gtk2 and submitted observation to AUR.
Edit2: installed lib32-ati-dri (not present in the dependencies list of the aur package) and now the game works. Submitted observation to AUR.

Main differences coming to my mind are that in kubuntu I have the proprietary video driver installed instead of the open one.
The Radeon 6970 would probably perform better with the proprietary diver including power saving features since it's still a new series. It takes a while before the open driver becomes comparable for gaming (hopefully before the proprietary driver ceases support for it).
Though the Catalyst driver was put in the AUR for a reason

I'm sure the catalyst driver would perform better. I installed the open source one for curiosity and I must say that for not-so-3D-intensive-games (and pure 2D games) I've tried so far (Frozen Synapse, Bit.Trip Runner, Dungeons of Dredmor, Revenge of the Titans, Edge, SpaceChem and Neverball), it performs well.
