How do you output Japanese in your status bar?
I used to do the same in DWM. Simply patched it with pango (support for xft fonts), and chose a font that had Japanese characters. From there, you just need to give in the Japanese as normal into the tag name in the configuration file.

This is my 1st ever Arch install, took me a while but was absolutely worth it. Nothing to amazing looking yet but will do til i get some more time to customise it.
