I have the very same issue as well ; but I guess it's somehow related to a problem with VLC interacting with dbus. There is a slight 1 to 2 seconds delay each time I start VLC (since a few months ago), which would be due to a QT bug.
Please check this out : http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=94970
I'm definitely looking for a fix :-)

I've never been able to disable the screensaver from any app when playing movies. Except with this python script:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=284804
which runs nicely.

Thanks for the tip. That's just a workaround though, as the screensaver inhibition used to work properly. We shall see if the next KDE / QT versions make a difference (as VLC still to have an issue with the current QT).

Rémi, a VLC developer, suggested to try to manually inhibit the screensaver with "xdg-screensaver suspend (window id obtained with wmctrl)".
And, it turned out it didn't inhibit the screensaver, so it ain't a VLC specific issue but a more general one...
cf. http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php … 52#p305752
I should probably start a new thread or bugreport indicating that xdg-screensaver doesn't manage to inhibit the screensaver.

Yes, with flash.

It happens to me to. But slighly diferent although i think its connected.
I dont use screensaver. What happens is the lcd monitor going to standby mode (black screen) after the time settings in power management (in my case 10 min).
This happens both in VLC and Flash in fullscreen.
In smplayer for instance this doesnt happens. This is the way it should be ( inhibit screen power savings when a video is playing in fullscreen mode).
Would like to fill a bug report but dont know where is the problem specifically. I guess it is the KDE Power Management System or some problem in the d-bus communication but not sure...

Well i tested this a little more and i found if i do:
$ xset -dpms
this doesn't happen anymore.
So this could be a display driver bug to. I have a Nvidia GTX 560 Ti card connected via DVI to a LCD monitor. Running updated Arch with nvidia proprietary drivers.
Please feel free to tell me someway to debug this problem.
But be nice, im not a programmer
Just for the record this happens since a while ago with different driver versions but dont know since when.
No special configurations, only the default instalattion via archwiki. Everything else works fine.
