Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@mah0 - Since your problem isn't directly related to the repo, please start a new thread with the word "kernel26-ck" in the title and folks will try to help you.  Also, the dmesg.log you posted is not relevant since you didn't copy over the one resulting from your failed attempt to boot into kernel26-ck:  see line 3 of your log, "Linux version 2.6.39-ARCH (thomas@evey) (gcc version 4.6.1 (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Jul 9 15:31:04 CEST 2011"

Excuse me, I'm experimenting hard system freeze with the latest -ck core2 kernel from your repo. I think it has something to do with strigi being indexing and taking loads of memory/cpu.

@franz1789 - please start a new thread with the keyword "kernel26-ck" in the title.  Let's keep discussions in this thread about the repo/packages (i.e. this package isn't installing correctly or this package fails integrity checks, etc.)

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hello graysky,

Yesterday I installed the AMD K10 optimized version of the CK kernel and it is simply amazing!
Loading programs is now much faster and the system is more responsive.

However, I have a problem with the repo:

[root@dragon bobby]# tail -3 /etc/pacman.conf
[repo-ck]
Server = http://home.comcast.net/~repo-ck/i686

[root@dragon bobby]# pacman -Syy

[root@dragon bobby]# pacman -Sl repo-ck
[root@dragon bobby]# pacman -Ss kernel26-ck
[root@dragon bobby]#

That is why I downloaded the kernel package and installed it with pacman -U.

The repo name should be kernel26-ck.

[kernel26-ck]
Server = http://home.comcast.net/~repo-ck/$arch

Thank you, that solved the issue.

This should be changed in the wiki (probably it is not updated):

Add the Repo to pacman.conf
1) Add the following to your /etc/pacman.conf (I placed my entry at the bottom of the file):
[repo-ck]
Server = http://home.comcast.net/~repo-ck/$arch
2) Refresh via pacman -Syy
That's it. To see the contents of the repo, just search as such:
$ pacman -Sl repo-ck

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

There's already a placeholder package in AUR http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50911. So it should'nt be long at all. Remember, it's also weekend and many prefer to be outside in the summer, not sitting compiling packages smile.

When the ARCH patches are complete and ck releases a patchset for 3.0 probably. CK hasn't said anything yet about 3.0 AFAIK, so we'll see.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hello guys,

I installed the CK core 2 with nvidia, broadcom-wl. (64 bit)
It was all OK and even I can see my wireless network. I also installed wicd to help me out figuring how to setup my wireless.
When I try to pick my wl it always give me connection failed unable to get IP address.

Is there any other settings to apply.

I also tried to setup my wireless with the normal Arch kernel and I have the same problem (I have tried everything)

Please help me out.

@ehabreda - please start a new thread... not related to repo nor to the kernel26-ck packages at all.  Very likely a problem with your hardware.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

By the way... about the k7 kernel. I ve read in this article that the XP CPU uses the march=athlon-xp flag instead of the march=athlon-4. Can you check it please? I am thinking of removing the precompiled kernel of yours and installing the one from AUR with my new /etc/makepkg.conf:

CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -mtune=athlon -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -m3dnow"

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@twilight0 - I'm running the k7 package on three different Athlon XP machines with no problems.  I would recommend that you don't use those CFLAGS.  If you wanna build it yourself, use:

CFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

To check that I'm right about the CFLAGS I use for the k7 package, you can do this:

$ gcc -c -Q -march=native --help=target | grep march

Here it is on my XP 3200+

$ gcc -c -Q -march=native --help=target | grep march
  -march=                             athlon-4

And again on my XP 2100+

$ gcc -c -Q -march=native --help=target | grep march
  -march=                             athlon-4

All - please update your /etc/pacman.conf to reflect a minor name change to the repo.  Since the kernel26 name has been retired, I have renamed the repo simply, "repo-ck" -- as such, the db file I generate that tells pacman what's in there has been renamed accordingly.
