The 4.0.2-2 version from your repo is causing a kernel panic here, graysky.

Uber crash on shutdown on 4.0.2-3. CPU#2 is stuck. I can boot, but it's laggy and apps are crashing left and right. I have a journal depicting the crash if you want it.

Damn... you're the first to report this under 4.0.2-2-ck.  Are there others?

@Nordic - Does this help: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=183518 ?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@Nordic - CK studied your backtrace and proposed this patch which I incorporated into 4.0.2-4-ck.  Would you please try it and report back here?

What's different from 4.0.2-2-ck?
1) The new patch is active.

Option 1 (roll your own):

http://repo-ck.com/PKG_source/next/testing/linux-ck-4.0.2-4.src.tar.gz

Option 2 (my builds):

pacman -U http://repo-ck.com/PKG_source/next/testing/linux-ck-4.0.2-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -U http://repo-ck.com/PKG_source/next/testing/linux-ck-headers-4.0.2-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

Note - The binaries are compiling now and should be online in 10-15 min.

@graysky

4.0.2-4 seems fine so far. I've had round about 15 reboots without an issue. I did not unload the uas module for these tests though. I'll keep checking and I'll report back if any issues should arise.

Glad to hear that!  Can you post the output of the following while booted under this kernel please?

lsmod | grep eata

Can you also please try 4.0.2-5-ck?

What's different from 4.0.2-4-ck?
1) Per CK's suggestion, 'SCSI_EATA_TAGGED_QUEUE' is enabled.

Option 1 (roll your own):

Option 2 (my builds):

pacman -U http://repo-ck.com/PKG_source/next/testing/linux-ck-4.0.2-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

4.0.2-5 is fine as well.

doesn't return anything.

Only a couple of boots with 4.0.2-5 but so far all is well.
BFQ enabled and nothing returned from 'lsmod | grep eata'

Sorry I couldn't test 4.0.2-3 yesterday, graysky, but thanks to your astonishingly fast updates – and the reports from the team – I've leapt straight to 4.0.2-5 with no issues whatsoever. Three boots and two reboots without a hint of panic. Would it be worth trying -3 and -4, or do you think we've cracked it?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Thanks for testing and reported, guys.  Next thing to try is 4.0.2-4 but with NUMA disabled.  I will compile and upload in a few hours.  Stay tuned.  Also 4.0.3 is out but let's not do a multiple point change for troubleshooting purposes.  So I will keep the testing arm on 4.0.2 until we confirm CK's latest patch fixes the panics without NUMA.  The main repo will get 4.0.3 with NUMA AND CK's fixes.  Hope that is clear.  Give me a few hours.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@nordic89 and all others who have experienced a kernel panic - Please try 4.0.2-6-ck.

What's different from 4.0.2-2-ck?
1) This uses CK's new patch.
2) Per CK's suggestion, NUMA is disabled.

What's different from 4.0.2-5-ck?

Well 4.0.2-5 ran for most of today, and without any panics. I have replaced it with 4.0.2-6, and have booted three times without panic either. Will report any issues if found.

Same as 4.0.2-5 here, i.e. three boots and two reboots without a hitch. Do we have the go-ahead to fall back in sync with the main repo?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@nordic89, mauritiusdadd, paneless, miblo, inglor, and anyone else who has experienced a panic: glad to hear symptoms seem to have subsided.  With no instant panics, I think it's safe to move this setting into the 4.0.3 code base now.  I have compiled the corresponding v4.0.3 version with NUMA disabled for you to test.

What's different from 4.0.3-1-ck which is now in the repo?
*NUMA is disabled in 4.0.3-2-ck.

First boot with 4.0.3-2 no problem but second boot panic during start up. I think I saw a message regarding syncing failed (possibly prefixed with systemd). Still installed and will report any further issues.

Check journalctl for the exact error.

Unfortunately journalctl doesn't show for the boot in question. I have the previous one and the one for this current session but nothing to show the panic messages.

This seems to elicit the most panics yet.

  • Boot successfully (with BFQ)

  • Reboot to panic!

  • Boot successfully

  • Reboot to panic!

  • Boot to panic!

    • Reinstall 4.0.2-6

  • Reboot to panic! (at least I'm fairly sure it panicked, but I'm afraid I didn't bother to capture it)

  • Boot successfully into 4.0.2-6 as expected

So this is the first time I've experienced a panic on boot. The only difference I can see between the two panics on reboot is that the second one has an extra call trace:

kernfs_sop_show_options+0x32/0x40

Hope this helps.

linux-ck-4.0.3-1 and linux-ck-4.0.3-2 both work fine.
