Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

I've spotted something new in portage... Suse tool. It gives "a lot" of info (it took 100kb of a html file -> http://www.hubi.info/rik/aa.html )

# $Id: PKGBUILD,v 1.15 2005/05/19 16:30:22 judd Exp $
# Maintainer: Riklaunim
pkgname=hwinfo
pkgver=8.38
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="hwinfo is the hardware detection tool used in SuSE Linux"
url="http://www.suse.com"
depends=('sysfsutils')
source=(ftp://ftp.iqchoice.com/pub/people/rail/gmso/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
#md5sums=('')

build() {
  cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
  make || return 1
  make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
}

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

hwd loads snd-via82xx even if I disabled the audio device in the BIOS setup.

lspci | grep audio
00:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy (rev 04)

So if the onboard AC97 audio device is disabled hwd shouldn't load it's modules.

Hwd doesn't load any modules, only shows what hardwares are available.

Hwd doesn't load any modules, only shows what hardwares are available.

Ok well then it shouldn't show the onboard AC97 audio as available when it is disabled in BIOS. Since the audio device isn't really avaible.
lshwd | grep via82xx shows this when audio device is disabled:

00:0f.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies|VT82C586 IDE [Apollo] (snd_via82xx)

And this when audio device is enabled:

00:11.5 1106:3059 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.|L7VTA v1.0 Motherboard (KT400-8235) (snd-via82xx)
00:0f.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies|VT82C586 IDE [Apollo] (snd_via82xx)

So it is the IDE controller that is wrongfully identified as an audio device

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

I don't see anything "wrongful". The device maybe disabled but the hardware is still attached in the M/Board. I agree, to know if a hw is disabled, would be nice.

Re: Improve hwd/lshwd ("hwd -u")

Sorry if this has come up in the thread, but I haven't read it all and I just want to post something before I goto bed.

I just used hwd -x for the first time. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop which has a wide LCD screen which runs at 1280x800. Of the massive list of modelines in the generated conf, this one didn't exist.

Maybe it could be included in the next release?

Still, it's a might fine tool. Well done to all involved smile
