I installed MPD the "traditional" way as on the wiki, but I could neither update my database with Sonata, MPC or NCMPCPP. Sonata runs with no errors after attempting to update the database. My music is stored in /home/arch/Music which is a symlink to /mnt/Stuff/Dropbox/Music.
/etc/mpd.conf http://pastebin.com/4HucQndh
resultant /var/lib/mpd/mpd.db http://pastebin.com/NeKE9DY5
Many thanks. I'll be glad to provide additional information.

Does the user "mpd" have permission to access /mnt/Stuff/Dropbox/Music?

Well, this is rather awkward, because I don't think it has. When I get my computer on tomorrow I'll check. Thank you so much!

Okay, so both the music files and the directories above it have 777 permissions, and so does the symlink. Just to test I used su mpd, but even as root it doesn't work. Does installing mpd from pacman automatically create the user "mpd" or do I have to create it myself?

Never mind, my bad. Home directory has mode 700. Changing the music directory to the direct name fixes everything. Thanks so much!
