Okay, the problem is now apparently gone. Or so it seems.
After around 1.5 - 2 years of using the same system (same configurations, same packages, etc), I've decided to do a full reinstall, and now that I'm into KDE again and clementine-svn is compiled and installed from AUR... the MP4 AAC audio works again.
So it seems like something in my system was broken.
Many thanks to everyone for all your effort!

Great! Glad you got it solved. It's unfortunate that the actual problem coiuldn't be discerned, but at least it works. I'm using the svn version too as the reguklar one doesn't see my iPod.

I've been using the SVN version ever since I found out that there is support for gapless playback in the SVN, while in the "stable" branch didn't have that yet.
I'm aware that the "stable" might have it at this point, but I have no need for switching back. It's been in the .ccache directory (one of the very few things I backed up before reinstalling) for more than a year now, so compiling usually takes less than pulling the sources themselves.
It's currently my favourite audio player (as much as amaroK 1.4 was back in the day), not only because of the "nostalgia" value, but because it does everything I need (gapless, replaygain, streaming from Jamendo, user-friendly music library, relatively lightweight compared to other players of this category, etc.)
TLDR - works for me
(also, OP is a f*g for asking help with stuff he himself broke)

Nah, the OP is a f*g for choosing AAC over vorbis ![]()
edit: Have you tried the nyan cat visualiser yet? I think it was introduced a couple of revisions ago

Actually, I only use FLAC and Ogg Vorbis for my audio needs (FLAC for archiving, and Vorbis for playing on my laptop and my Droid) ![]()
I wanted to try out AAC before dumping some albums to my Dad's iPhone... since we already have the CDs, I didn't see much sense in buying those same things from iTunes again.
Nope, I have very little use of visualisers... as pleasing as Clementine is to look at, I usually listen to my music while either a) working (so I can't really look at my audio player) or b) taking a walk (so Clementine is rather far away at that point).
Having that said, I think I can safely conclude that I use my audio players to listen to them, and not look at them ![]()

I had the same problem, installing gstreamer-ffmpeg solved it.
