Perberos uploaded the Mate DE packages for i686 and x86_64 to my server.
For anyone who has been having trouble downloading Mate, you can try getting it from my mirror:
Awesome. Thank you.

I hope to remove all file conflicts soon. When that happens, I'll post a list of packages that must be reinstalled. Because some files will disappear when fix the problems of conflict. (Those GNOME3 related)
Hi
Can I ask why is it called Mate? Why not users-desktop-environment or simple-desktop-environment etc.....?
Mate sounds like something you can drink. After posting I googled Mate and it's indeed something you can drink see wiki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mate_%28beverage%29
Sorry my English is bad.
Yes.
Drinking the yerba mate is considered to be more than just good for the body; it's also considered to be good for the soul. Drinking it can be a form of meditation or reflection - allowing the goodness to infuse into the body while stimulating and resting the mind. Those who share the mate join in a kind of bond of total acceptance and friendship. Generally the server will start a new infusion and then take the first drink. This is considered an act of kindness by the other people in the circle, because usually the first serving is considered the worst.

Will mate eventually have its own email since it has its own keyring? Like "mate-evolution" or "mate-email" etc.. Also, interested in if it will have a mateconf-editor like gconf-editor.

It already has a 'mateconf', it's mate-conf-editor.

All I have is "mateconftool-2". Is that what you mean?

Thanks. I did not know there was one.

I currently have thunderbird as my back up. I like evolution too much though. It works well in mate. It just will not remember passwords.

I can't tell you. I don't have a keyboard with multimedia keys.

Found a solution for the Evolution keyring problem after scouring the net:
#! /bin/bash
eval \`gnome-keyring-daemon\`
export GNOME_KEYRING_PID
export GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET
exit
It worked for me. I will test it further and see if I run into any problems before adding it to wiki.
Edit: Added to Evolution wiki instead of Mate wiki. Linked back to it in the troubleshooting section of Mate wiki.

Question - why are programs such as gucharmap being added into mate? If the goal is to eventually convert these to GTK 3, then why don't we just use the versions that come with GNOME 3? I mean, things like GNOME 3 panel don't have the full functionality of GNOME 2's, and we should convert those. But forking gucharmap seems counterproductive to me; just fork GNOME 3's version. This also applies to totem and nautilus; it's better to just fork the GTK 3 versions because they don't conflict with the GTK 2 panel and mate-session.

I definitely do so, Perberos! Thank you very much for doing this! You've done a really great job! Thanks God, I've got a usable desktop-environment again!

Perberos, I see now that I can not click on the shut-down-button in my panel, because it's greyed-out(not sure how I can spell it in english). I wanted to take a screenshot, but that also doesn't work and I get an error-message. Maybe you should try it yourself(making a screenshot) because I've the german language-packages installed and therefore the error-message won't help you very much.

i still don't get it why your packages cannot be installed along with gnome 3. you can easy use /opt and get over this madness and also you can share some modules with gnome.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

But I still use the versions from GNOME 3...
The packages shouldn't conflict.
Offline
Already tried /opt, but it's hard and hurt to compile.
Mostly file conflicts are with generic names. GNOME is... GTK, and GTK is... GNOME, that's the question.
Offline
Actually, GTK is GIMP. And even GIMP hasn't upgraded to GTK 3. It should, though.
