I definitely missed subtle's tiling method.

Another thing about DWM is that (likely) no one uses it unpatched.

I do (when I use dwm) smile

My setup uses 13 patches I almost feel like a debian package maintainer.
Some patches in the wild add good features but are either ugly or conflict with my patches, and I have to convince myself "You don't need that feature!" If I can't have my cake and eat it too, I will eat some nuts tacos.

Take this as a sign that dwm is not the right window manager for you.

Garbled titles are inconvenient. Worse, it becomes embarrassing if others see it while using my computer.

...really?

No it's not, but it's the closest. And "patch needed" is the dwm code for "marry me" wink

roll No, I think you must be insecure, or something like that. What's there to be embarrassed about? Are you afraid people will tease you because some characters didn't display properly on your screen?

Well, it's a little embarrassing for me, because I care a little when people get garbage from me.
Something like this vOWpiOA isn't helping anyone.
I don't think of the (unlikely) teasing part, and I don't care. Maybe embarrassed is not the word, more like sorry.

Re: July 2011 Screenshots

But how are people 'getting garbage from you', exactly? It's just a window title in the bar that's bothering you, right? dwm isn't garbling your files/data.

Why, the title bar is supposed to display the right information yet dwm is giving out garbage.
If Firefox did the same thing for every web page, would you call it "just a web page that's bothering you"?
When people get that kind of garbage while using my computer, they are getting garbage from me.

I don't know why you didn't get it, but this is going way off topic... oops.

Do you realize you've eaten up nearly two goddamn pages between the two of you having a one-on-one argument that has nothing to do with this thread?  It's a little irritating having to dig past all this to try and see some nice screenshots.  I've got no issue with you having this discussion, but it belong in TGN, not here.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that our discussion--calling it an "argument" is a bit much, isn't it? It seems pretty civil to me--ate up nearly two pages. Because, y'know.. it only takes up part of page 10 (allow me to spell that out for you: that would be less than one page) here. Blame it on your pagination settings smile As far as I know, my account uses the defaults (whatever they may have been when I created it).

@lolilolicon: Don't you think that comparison is a bit flawed? Of course if Firefox was displaying junk characters in web pages, that would be a problem. But dwm isn't causing problems with the contents of your windows; it's just displaying junk characters in the title (in the bar). Of course this isn't ideal--I can understand why it would bother some people--but I still don't think it's an important issue, or a usability issue. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree..

And now, to justify my post... a screenshot:
