Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

some more tweak:

remove gimp, it's usefull only for few users, and install gthumb, you have a nice image viewer and some image editing capabilities
and so you can remove even ristretto

and.. why pulseaudio ?.. don't love alsa ? (it's standard on arch )

thinks about removing  gnome-mplayer for smplayer
even vlc can substitute gnome-mplayer AND exile (as audio player) (even if i use quod libet as music player, very nice player)

also thinks about conky and a nice conkyrc (should be simple but usefull)

from a standard xfce installation is missing gnumeric

also, why pnmixer ? volumeicon or the standard xfce volume applet isn't enough ?

thanks again and sorry for these rant smile

BHH

P.S. btw for my tipicall installation is missing:
filezilla, xchat, qbittorrent (or deluge or transmission) , keepassx and yapan!

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Thx for your comment. Maybe you are right with gimp. Lets see how much space it would give me.

and.. why pulseaudio ?.. don't love alsa ? (it's standard on arch )

I like pulseaudio. It was functioning for me everytime.

thinks about removing  gnome-mplayer for smplayer

I don't want to install the qt libs. They are very big.

also thinks about conky and a nice conkyrc (should be simple but usefull)

That is a good idea. Maybe I will add it in the next release.

from a standard xfce installation is missing gnumeric

Is already on the TODO list. wink

also, why pnmixer ? volumeicon or the standard xfce volume applet isn't enough ?

I like it and xfce mixer does not support pulseaudio.

P.S. btw for my tipicall installation is missing:
filezilla, xchat, qbittorrent (or deluge or transmission) and keepassx

Yeah filezilla and xchat is really missing. The other applications I don't know. I will take a look at them.

wink

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Do you think it is ok, if I drop the support of reiserfs in the installer?

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Yeah, I say remove it for now. If someone wants it later on, you can always just add it again.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

well.. it's a strange request.. since reiserfs is still supported from major distribution

why this question ?

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Because I have problems with it. When I split the system on many partitions and one of the partitions is a reiserfs filesystem then installation is ok. But arch linux does not mount it on boot, although it is in fstab. I will play a bit with it. If I don't get it, I will remove it for the next release.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Hmm. I am getting mad with filesystem-manjaro^^. Maybe you have a solution.

PKGBUILD of filesystem-manjaro:

pkgname=filesystem-manjaro
provides=('filesystem')
conflicts=('filesystem')
pkgver=2011.04

but I have the error message on doing a Syu:

looking for inter-conflicts...
:: filesystem and filesystem-manjaro are in conflict. Remove filesystem-manjaro? [y/N]

Hmm

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

what about wicd and not networkmanager?
it's fast and a lot less dependencies then networkmanager
ok.. it's not support vpn (iirc) .. but for home/soho use is more then enough

about filesystem.. it's a dependency of mkinitcpio

if i put filystem in ignorepgk list..

[root@asrock330 andres]# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
 manjaro is up to date
 core is up to date
 extra is up to date
 community is up to date
 archlinuxfr is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
warning: ignoring package filesystem-2011.04-1
warning: cannot resolve "filesystem>=2009.01-2", a dependency of "mkinitcpio"
warning: ignoring package filesystem-2011.04-1
warning: cannot resolve "filesystem>=2009.01-2", a dependency of "mkinitcpio"
:: The following packages cannot be upgraded due to unresolvable dependencies:
      kernel26  mkinitcpio

Do you want to skip the above packages for this upgrade? [y/N]

so.. the "best" is to rename your filesystem-majaro to filesystem (as standard)
AND put your repository  (in pacman.conf) BEFORE core repo

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Thank you. That is a good solution! I will just try it.
About wicd. I tried it a year ago and I made bad experiences with it. So I think I will stay with the networkmanager. But I will give it a try.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

and..your filesistem must be perfectly compliant with standard filesystem package!
and update as soon as filesystem on core get updated!

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

Or you could just add provides=('filesystem>=2009.01-2') in your PKGBUILD. The problem is in the versioning. Replacing stuff in the core repos with a different package but with the same name yourself isn't a good solution imo.

@Zom: K. I will try your solution.

Edit: Does not work! In the provides array it is not allowed to have an < >.

Edit: I am now using only =. Hopefully it will work.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

I got an error 404 when I clicked on the links in the OP. It looks like a very interesting distro though, do you plan to release a 32 bit version?

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

There is a new version available! Please check this link.

@buzzqw: I didn't replace gimp with gthumb, because I didn't like the program.  Later one in the few next releases I will concentrate more on alternative software. For now it is most important to concentrate on bugs.

Re: Manjaro Linux Distribution

thanks Roland!

re installed on asrock 330 (atom 330+nvidia ion)
no problem with nvidia driver!
also fixed missing files on /boot

the installer worked great!
now is need only a more fine tuning on software selections

great work so far, kudos!

BHH

EDIT: persist problem of dsplay at boot. i cannot see any grub selection.
i work on a lcd monitor 1680*1050

would be better to force an 800*600 resolution at boot

EDIT2: fixed by changing

set gfxmode=800x600

on /boot/grub/grub.cfg
