I don't get the last one?
BTW: When I boot, it didn't find the kernel anymore :s
I'll try something out...Ruben
i'm not at home right now, but in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, in the FILES="" section (i think), you need to add /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf, to include KMS in early start (oh nevermind, just saw in the wiki kernels > 2.6.33 have kms enabled by default). still, there's another option in kernel boot parameters which also affects KMS, which is 'radeon.modeset=0', you can also try that. KMS+radeon+Xorg should work though, i will try switching to radeon when i get home, as i'm using catalyst right now.
when you say kernel doesn't boot, you mean it didn't boot with nomodeset at the end of the kernel entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst?
also, i was taking a look at your Xorg log, and the thing i don't really get is why you have this:
[ 109.524] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 10.0
[ 109.524] (II) LoadModule: "radeon"
[ 109.525] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so

try to install xf86-video-mesa as a fallback.
have you followed the wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati) ?

Thanks mate! I had to reinstall arch with the NET cd some months old.
When I booted, pacmanned xorg, runned startx, the stuff crashed.
When I booted, went to Arch on vmlinuz, typed e and edited kernelline
with nomodeset, arch booted (quicker!) and I could run startx. Everything
out of the box. Your my saver of the day!Ã Many Thanks. Writing from
Lynx on Arch box. Installing XFCE4!

thanks for sticking with me, i'm also a learner here and basically everywhere/in everything new. I'm happy you got it working like you wanted. Now if you want that kernel parameter to stay just add it to /boot/grub/menu.lst like i said before and you're done.
Welcome aboard
