User-level install of Google Chrome

Hi!

I'd like to install Google Chrome on my workstation at the university. I don't have root access there and I'm restricted to home directory (obviously). Google Chrome, hovewer, depends on being installed in /opt/google-chrome - I can see there are hardcoded paths in the binary.

Has anybody stumpled upon this problem and solved it?

On a different note, what would give me the best shot at creating fake filesystem hierarchy to trick the program into believing that some files are where they actually aren't?

Cheers,
MH
