Re: Why I always have to go back to Arch?

Was using Arch with Gnome3. Tried out FreeBSD, then went to Ubuntu to try out Unity again. Now back to Arch with i3wm and having fun again.

Re: Why I always have to go back to Arch?

I tend to hop from FreeBSD to Arch and back. Arch is by far the best Linux distro I've tried and used, but I think I'm really a BSDer at heart. For those thinking about *BSD, do try it; FreeBSD and PCBSD are top-notch (and rock-solid). PC-BSD's package manager is very interesting as well. All packages come with their dependencies, so there are no dependency issues. When one package installs it's dependencies the're registered in the package database. Then other packages with the same dependencies are just symlinked to them.

FreeBSD is solid, but mixing in a bunch of GPL software written with Linux in mind (especially DEs) doesn't always work totally smoothly. Just because *BSD is unix and supposed to work with Linux stuff doesn't mean it's true in reality, unfortunately. It's the reason I keep coming back to Arch. big_smile And the Linuxulator on FreeBSD is only for 32-bit Linux apps which is sometimes an issue (but not usually).

Now I'm just dual-booting the two, and it'll likely stay that way.

Re: Why I always have to go back to Arch?

I found out that with Arch, the weak points on the system I designed are the ones that I have myself (it reflects my personality in a pristine way, I would say). It's a matter of time and just a little patience to overcome those weak points.

About my setup.... hmmm it's very humble really. Just a Xfce session using SLiM. I have pro audio apps, virtualbox, Libreoffice, aMSN, Banshee, ePSXe, Dolphin-emu, Warzone2100 and some other things installed. The only thing I do to keep things going healthy is to upgrade packages and read the news at the Arch site periodically.

Regards! big_smile
