I think I solved my kmix problem by removing everything kmix related from the kde config folder.
At least right now, even though I started a Flash video, KMix does not consume 100% CPU.edit:
Unfortunately the same problem just occurred again… So the statement above is invalid, please disregard it^^
is this maybe caused by flash?
i dont have this problem and i dont have flash installed...
the only problem i have is that gwenview always crashes when switching from view to browse

for me, kmix issues are related to pulseaudio, removing it , solves the crashes and high CPU usage

no issue here with kmix , using alsa

Just for the record, I'm using Veromix insted of KMix, and have no such problems.
Though some may not like it, it seems a better solution to me than removing pulseaudio.

hm i am using pulseaudio without problems

yeah, the problem only appears when you e.g. surf to YouTube.
64-Bit Arch Linux, and PulseAudio (removing it is not possible, as I *need* its features).
I will give Veromix a try though. Hopefully it became a bit more stable since the last time I tested it.

Hi, I can confirm that too.. I use veromix and all is ok, but I needed to disable the KMixD mixer service in SystemSettings > Startup and Shutdown > Service Manager. I use x86_64 version, with pulseaudio and flash and finally works fine. next Wednesday beta2 go out to the wild.. probably will be fixed, but probably the others bugs too.. ahhh.. the betas version..
EDIT: after read @Xabre .... I use libflashsupport-pulse from aur

Are you also using libflashsupport-pulse? If not, would it make any difference?

Hm... something just killed Desktop Effect's "blur" effect performance with beta2 on my intel 945 laptop. kwin is pinned at max CPU every time I try to do something (alt-tab, or just clicking Kickoff) and hangs for several seconds. It used to work, but now I have to disable it to get a usable system.
Gwenview now works much better, although I haven't tried Gwenview with "blur" turned on.

@darenhal Have you tried deactivating the OpenGL 2 shaders in Desktop Effects? Tooltip says it might improve performance on legacy hardware.

Successfully updated to the beta 2.
So far the changes I can notice:
- KMix doesn't eat the whole CPU anymore, but the pulse sound streams list doesn't update and it often crashes when an app stops to output sound.
- The very slow window resizing issue with fglrx seems to be gone (still slower than 4.7 tho). Oddly, window resizing is faster with compositing enabled...
- Gwenview is way more stable and smooth.
Else it's more or less the same. Dolphin is still very bugged in detailed view.

window resizing will always be faster with compositing because of not redrawing areas of the desktop that haven't changed

Yes I know, and it should even save power, but that's theorically.
Because in practice, especially with drivers like fglrx that horribly perform concerning compositing, it's not the case (yet).
Also the way X11 has been designed makes Compositing still not as optimal as it should be. Hence why Wayland tries to bring some solutions to this matter.
Window resizing has always been slower in my system with compositing enabled than without. Now it seems faster because looks like the resizing in non-composited mode is much slower than it used to be in 4.7.

@sevmpe I didn't even look at that since I hadn't changed anything. Now my desktop is running swell. Many thanks!

could someone confirm that in beta 2 is not possible to change the color of the notes plasmoid? I have several notes in my dashboard and now they are all yellow...
thanks.

This beta works really well, but they haven't fixed yet the CPU consumption issue with plasma-desktop (I had it in KDE4.7).
And the new Dolphin is awesome!

Are you planning to put qt 4.8 in this repo, or will it end up in testing instead? I'm guessing the latter, but yeah.
