Re: [SOLVED] Can't boot anymore

4on6,

Assuming that you've already downloaded the latest versions of udev and mkinitcpio on this PC, then they should be available in /var/cache/pacman/pkg (or similar, I'm away from my Arch PC at the moment) and can be installed using pacman -U.

If they have not been downloaded to this PC previously, then you should be able to download them using another PC and get them onto this PC using a USB disk or something similar. Once they're on the PC somewhere, they can be installed using pacman -U.

But wasn't this latest install the culprit for the problems?
I moved the pacman cache to my home directory some time ago because I ran out of space on the root partition. There, grepping the cache, I find

udev-180-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
udev-181-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
udev-181-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
udev-181-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
udev-181-9-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

and

mkinitcpio-0.8.2-1-any.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-0.8.2-2-any.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-0.8.2-3-any.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-0.8.4-1-any.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-0.8.5-1-any.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-0.8.6-2-any.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-busybox-1.19.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
mkinitcpio-busybox-1.19.4-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

Which two should I install?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't boot anymore

Just pacman -U the latest versions of each and mkinitcpio -p linux, that should be enough.

Thanks, now I finished the recipe from the wiki, exited, umounted, and rebooted.
And, unfortunately, see the same black screen with the same error message as described in my first post.

What now?

Err, i'm at a loss, those are the current versions in [core], so they should work fine when following the procedure...

Anyone else?

Thanks anyway!
This is getting a bit traumatic, I don't even understand what the problem is and why some are affected, others not.
There were error messages during mkinitcpio (files not found), but it seemed to finish with errors, but successfull.

Ahh, that's important information. smile

I think you need to get that internet running and do a full pacman -Syu on the chrooted installation...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't boot anymore

I finally made it, updating the whole system with 'pacman -Syu' did the trick as described in the wiki. I'm not sure how I managed to get the internet connection, I did something like 'dhcpcd eth0' and then 'pon', and suddenly it worked.

Win32 disk imager probably did not produce a bootable USB stick because of the different architecture assumed (32bit vs 64bit)? I have no idea why Unetbootin did not work for me.  Not being able to boot from a Arch live CD  in the beginning was apparently related to the fact that I simply copied the Arch image to the medium instead of doing 'dd'. Shame on me, but I just did not know better.

Thanks to everybody for the help and the patience.
