Anyway, it's a lot like snap and anorexia. I had almost settled on using anorexia but it did some funny things in my terminal, and I wanted something even more like OCRA, so my font-making journey began...

May I suggest you CTWM ? It's basivally TWM with virtual desktops and a few nice features.
