MPD is the best choose, many frontends it great. Pygmy and pympd are two that were contributed by archlinux users!

Re: a media player that does what i want ..

Well, my choice of player must be :
1) easy on resources
2) intuitive interface
3) LYRICS SUPPORT!!!!

There are many players which comply with my first two criteria, but fails on the 3rd!! sad

Wonder whether I'm asking too much from a music player!! sad
Any sugestions???

Re: a media player that does what i want ..

Hi!

I use mplayer for about everything. For internet radio, I made a little function in the .bashrc that works very well, and I don't need to write the internet address all the time (but that will only work if you know what you want to listen to).

I find mplayer very configurable, it uses few ressources, and it is not difficult (though CLI can be somehow discouraging in the beginning, it gives a lot of power once you know what to do, and it does not take much effort to reach that point, though).

But there is something I haven't managed yet: playing audio cds properly. I do it with the command

mplayer //[/device]

but the sound comes out like broken. I guess it could have something to do with the speed. Anybody out there playing audio cds with mplayer?

cheers,

I can only say that Amarok is one of the most mature media playback apps you can get around here. At least this is my opinion.

Re: a media player that does what i want ..

I agree that AmaroK "truly rocks"!! smile
Infact, the reason I do'nt find my dream player is that I keep comparing all of them with AmaroK, and none seem to be quite at par with it!! big_smile

However, currently I have settled with GMPC with MPD.....seems a good enough player!!!

Sonata is also good, but a bit too simplistic . Besides the lyrics option doesn't seem to allow me to add my own lyrics!!
Listen looks very promising indeed, but it still seems to be in early stages of developement!! The features are cool, but needs more brushing-up IMHO!! Besides, I don't think it will be very easy on resources!!

Re: a media player that does what i want ..

Hi all!

Does anyone of you have found a music collection manager which allows to keep mp3 on cds and tells you which cd to load whenever you want to play a specific song?

I've tried Amarok... it's very nice and complete, but it seems to be it lacks this feature...

There's datacrow, but it is java based and can turn very very slow...

Any suggestions?

Thanx a lot!

Federico.

Re: a media player that does what i want ..

Only Amarok for me. No stability problems, ever, and it might be resource hungry for some, but I've got a pretty beefy system, so I don't even notice it.
