I'm also using compton-git and bspwm-git.

The only thing that works from compton is the drop-shadow.

Have you tried with an empty autostart?

Re: bspwm — A tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning

I'd like to underline the fact that bspwm has a mailing list:
    bspwm at librelist dot com

And I would appreciate if the priority was given to this communication channel as it would allow me (and everybody else) to reply without having to visit the Arch BBS.

The first sent email will be your subscription email: http://librelist.com/help.html.

Looks nice.

I only noticed one slight problem: when you removed all the arguments passed to dzen2 in the example panel, you also removed -h 24 and you ended up with the default dzen2 height which is too small.

Thanks, it's your hard work!

That was intentional smile This is running on an 11" MacBook Air, so I like everything compact.

Re: bspwm — A tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning

Hi,

Just wanted to drop a very big "Thank you!" for this fantastic WM. I've been looking for my best lightweight WM for a year. I tried dwm, ratposion, monsterwm, xmonad, herbstluftwm, i3 and others. But yours is the definitely the best.

P.

Re: bspwm — A tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning

I'm seeing two problems getting bspwm working with an additional monitor. First
when I start X without an additional monitor and add it with xrandr the monitor
doesn't show up in bspc list_monitors.

Next when I do start X and configure the additional monitor and have it show up
in list_monitors I can't seem to interact properly with the desktop. I start
a terminal and it shows up in a very strange spot either under my current
desktop on my laptop display or in between displays.

I'm not sure if this is bspwm's fault or if I have X mis-configured.

Update

I discovered on the mailing list that bspwm won't detect live changes made with xrandr currently. I suspect that is my root issue here.

Re: bspwm — A tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning

A bit offtopic but...

What is that terminal color scheme? I've been looking for one with a tan background like yours. Please tell me you have a vim one too!
Also, in the devianart comments, you said the text turns grey when unfocued. What are you using to do this? I've tried using compton, but the fading does not work, only the drop shadow.

I'll definitely be moving from i3 this bspwm in the near future. It just takes quite a bit of config to get it setup the way I want it.

It's just the solarized colour scheme with a slightly tweaked background colour.
The focusing affect is simply done with colour definitions in .Xresources, go check out the official solarized Xresources colour scheme.

Hello bloom,

Great wm ; thanks for your work !

I just have one question, which might be obvious. Is there a way to get a max layout ?

Thanks a lot,

The package previously known as dzen2-bare-git is now dzen2-bskv-git.

Re: bspwm — A tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning

I'm a newbie to tiling WMs, so maybe my question is a little bit stupid. Can I minimize/iconfy a certain window when using bspwm?

Re: bspwm — A tiling window manager based on binary space partitioning

Not at the moment.

I can think of an easy way to achieve window hiding/unhiding though, but it would require to use the dzen2 based panel.

The following discussion seems related: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=154870
