pholie, again does this happen with a new created user?
do you run any kde specific addon?
that are from my experience the things that can really cause errors.
ok kmail could be that this comes from your imap setup.
thanks

When running from a console I get :

konqueror:

And kdeinit reports :

could you do a pacman -Qi kdelibs? it should list heimdal as depend

It is there as a depend. The way I installed it was to just add testing and the kde 3.5 entries to my pacman.conf, sync and then pacman -S kde, I had some of the stable version of kde already installed which it then upgraded.

Can someone explain me what am I doing wrong ?
I added the [testing] and [kde-3.5-branch] repos to my pacman.conf and then I issue the following commands:
# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
:: testing is up to date
:: current is up to date
:: extra is up to date
:: community is up to date
:: kde-3.5-branch is up to date
# pacman -Q kde{libs,base}
kdelibs 3.4.2-5
kdebase 3.4.2-4
I also tried this:
# pacman -S kde
:: group kde:
arts gwenview kde-common kdeaccessibility kdeaddons kdeadmin kdeartwork kdebase
kdebindings kdeedu kdegames kdegraphics kdelibs kdemultimedia kdenetwork kdepim kdesdk
kdetoys kdeutils
Install whole content? [Y/n] y
:: arts-1.4.2-4: is up to date. Upgrade anyway? [Y/n]
[...]
Looks like pacman want to stick with 3.4.2 ?!
Any ideas ?

simple problem add the kde repo in fron of your repos then it will work

I didn't know pacman worked that way (I thought the version number took precedence instead of the order in the pacman.conf file).
I'm installing the pkgs right now...
Thank you very much for your tip.

I've not posted to forums much, so not sure if there is a more systematic method of separating threads- if so can someone point it out.
Next problem is I can't print from kde (but interestingly can print from within Win4lin). The linux message is:
========================================
A print error occurred. Error message received from system:
Unable to start child print process. The KDE print server (kdeprintd) could not be contacted. Check that this server is running.
========================================
Not being terribly literate, I don't know how to check this. Any help appreciated

before i try this, just wanted to know something. i have seen where everyone says make sure you sync with testing first. i am running testing right now, but should i not sync with current or extra at the same time? and if i am using testing, why am i not running qt 3.3.5? is it because i am also syncing with current or extra?
pacman -Qi qt reports 3.3.4-13

I don't know why you have qt 3.3.4-13. The extra repo only has qt 3.3.4-8.
To use kde 3.5, make sure that both the kde 3.5 repo and the testing repo are listed before the current/extra repo in your pacman.conf.

I'm not avare of any addons but i'll look at it once again. It just hangs so i want to know if someone else has encountered it too.
I don't think it's my users settings, i deleted all the suspicious files :)Later i will do tests with new user.
Same problem here. The system hangs on logout. I`ll test it with a new user.

My IMAP config seems to be crashing kde at all. No freeze, just logout of KDE. I don't know how I should test it, cause even if I start a console, it will be closed when it crashed.
Can you help me?
Thanks

try running gdb on it, gdb <yourapp>
then in the shell type "run"
then program will start probably you have to hit enter a view times until the app has fully started.
then when it crashed type ctrl+c and after that bt then a backtrace will appear.
hope this will help to debug this issue.

I'm having some problems with kde 3.5 here, but I'm not sure why or how
First of all, I'm using ndiswrapper, since I have a netgear wg311v2 (I hate TI), so any network activity draws a bit more cpu time than it should.
Since upgrading to KDE 3.5, I've been suffering from high loads (3-7 in average), and the thug here seems to be [events/0] (after 1 day uptime, it had eaten almost 10 cpu hours).
I'm not sure where the problem lies - I use amarok 24/7, and the music is located on my server (mounted with nfs), but I've never had any problems with this before (I've been running this setup for months)
To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.

hmmm, that is interesting. on my machine at work i have not synced to testing and my qt is version 3.3.4-8
here is my pacman.conf, its pretty standard
#[testing]
#Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/testing/os/i686
[current]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/current
[extra]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/extra
#[unstable]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/unstable
#[community]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/community
at home, the only difference in pacman.conf files is that i have uncommented the testing server. it is first, then current, then extra. are you saying that packages are updated by what is listed first?
not sure how i got qt 3.3.4-13 or from where, but that is wierd.
so if i put testing first, i should get qt 3.3.5 and then put the kde 3.5 base in there and it should upgrade kde to 3.5 using a pacman -Syu?

Yes. For example to see if qt needs to be upgraded, pacman will compare the version of the installed qt package with the version of the qt in the first repo appearing in pacman.conf

Try pacman -Sy qt with testing repo commented to see what pacman will tell you.
so if i put testing first, i should get qt 3.3.5 and then put the kde 3.5 base in there and it should upgrade kde to 3.5 using a pacman -Syu?
Yes, I assume that by "kde 3.5 base" you mean the special kde 3.5 repo setup by tpowa. Of course, the kde 3.5 repo must appear before the current/extra repo.

I think I've found a rather obscure bug:
If one starts konsole with full path (/opt/kde/bin/konsole) it does not show in the taskbar at all. However, starting it without giving the full path makes it behave as expected. Can anyone please confirm this behaviour?
