Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

I have upgraded to -2 release of kdestuff, and now i have problems when i try to compile amarok-svn:

grep: /usr/lib/libfam.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libfam.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libfam.la' is not a valid libtool archive

I searched for .la info reference to libfam.la and i found them in many kde's .la files, but i dont know how can i do for skipping the error :S

PD: I have installed gamin instead of fam, it could affect? :S

i know it guy, but i have stayed in testing for a while and i didn't have this problem until i have upgraded kdestuff to -2 release ( with -1 it still worked).

i am sure because i have compiled amarok-svn before and after to the upgrade...

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

Hi,

Yes, i had the same problem while compiling "ksudoko" version 0.3 What i did was just get the libfam package, and extract all the files from lib in the package to corresponding location on you arch install. That works, but is not an elegant solution smile

Rohan.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

I have tried kde 3.5 and there are about 40 errors as kde starts up. I click ok, ok, ok, etc, but more and more appear, so it is not really useable. Gnome is working sweetly though smile

Any ideas how to fix the kde errors?

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

best thing to do would be to make sure kde 3.4 is working ok and then upgrade to 3.5. my system is pretty clean though as i dont compile anything so when i upgraded to 3.5 it was flawless. sorry to hear about all your errors though. but if you want help with them, try posting some of them  smile

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

I was needing to install the fam libs, but when I try to install fam, it asks if I want to remove gamin. If I select yet, it tells me that it cant remove gamin because kdelibs is dependent on it. If I try the -f option, it still doesnt work.

Is there a way to remove Gamin and install FAM on a machine that already has KDE 3.5 on it, or go I have to remove KDE and reinstall with FAM?

Thanks!!!

Joe

HEHE... That did it...

Thanks man...

On a side note, what one is better, Gamin or FAM?

I noticed that gamin uses up allot of CPU, more than I ever noticed fam using.

Thanks!!!

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

Generally, gamin ought to be a more sane choice. But well, problems can arise everywhere ;-)

Make sure you have inotify enabled in kernel (I guess Arch's stock 2.6.13 has that) if you want to actually use one of main gamin's features, differiating it from fam (i.e. inotify support).

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

I'm noticing a weird sound problem under KDE. This happens with artsd on, but also with artsd off, but it never happens under e17 or gnome. Every now and then an intensive white noiseish sound almost destroys my speakers. It's hard to explain. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

Well that is weird. I just tried to log-in again to KDE 3.5 and all is ok smile  The only thing that has changed on my system was to install gnome 2.12 from testing - maybe a package was updated during that process?

Now that I am back in KDE after using Gnome for a week, it reinforces the fact that Gnome is one of the slowest WMs around ? sad

Acl has been added today to extra, thus it probably means your mirror's extra repo hasn't been updated yet.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

I'm not sure if this is a bug or the kde devel's wanted it this way, but a change i notice since kde 3.4.2 is to do with child panels. I have a hidden child panel(auto hiding-immediate) tucked away in the top right corner which gives me access to /home and media:/. In kde 3.4.2, desktop icons would occupy the space of the hidden panel when I 'line up icons vertically'. But in 3.5 beta2, even though the panel is hidden, the desktop icons are occupying only the space below the hidden panel when I click on line up icons vertically.

Apart from this tiny issue, this release feels faster, and I haven't experienced any crashes so far.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

letku, my guess is the program doesn't understand the system:/
you have probably to wait until the programs are all kde 3.5 ready.

EDIT:
Or you could try if a recompile of the apps does help, that they understand system:/
would be great to know, because this would add a new task berfore moving kde to extra when it becomes final.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

letku : your problem is restricted to only kmplayer.. xine-ui seems to play fine. mplayer seems to recopy the file to some temp directory and starts playing(which is very annoying for large video files).

tpowa: How would a recompile of kmplayer recognize system:/..? is there a ./configure option I'm missins?
