Re: [Solved] confused about lvm uefi partition requirements

Hi, no I honestly don't know which methods you mean?

I think I gave up trying. I have spend so many hours to make it work. I am grateful for your help. I learnt a lot while trying. I guess, it's not meant to be.

I will use boot instead of uefi.

What he means is updating your uefi bios and retry to create an uefi entry. Or placing an efi bootloader inside your efi partition as  "EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi" or "EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi". In this last case you can use the uefi shell file from here https://edk2.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroo … /Shell.efi for testing if your computer loads it automatically with the name bootmgfw.efi or bootx64.efi.

You can also just stick the boot loader there with that name or a boot manager. For example, I have a copy of grub.efi at EFI/boot/bootx64.efi. My machine boots that even if my EFI menu entries are gone (as happens a lot on my machine). Or you can stick the rEFInd .efi there with that name. Etc.

Arch Linux | x86_64 | GPT | EFI boot | refind | stub loader | systemd | LVM2 on LUKS

Re: [Solved] confused about lvm uefi partition requirements

Thanks s1ln7m4s7r and cfr for tips about copying efi bootloader to those microsofty and uefi-default places. In my case with Intel's DH61WW (BIOS v.0113) device path (DevPath) was constantly overwritten from PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1f,0x2)/Sata...full-device-path-here.../\EFI\arch_grub\grubx64.efi to VenHW(...uuid-of-drive-or-partition...).

This BIOS (BEH6110H.86A) seems to be pretty crappy because at first I spent one and a half day trying to first update and then un-brick BIOS, and now almost all day I tried to feed this UEFI the correct settings...

Anyway, deleting all entries from boot sequence and copying grubx64.efi to "the right" places solves problem.

Re: [Solved] confused about lvm uefi partition requirements

thanks to all of your help I was FINALLY smile able to boot without USB/CD. And since this has been such a pain in the ass, I wanted to share the solution with you. Maybe it will help someone. It is already somewhat stated in the wiki and God bless you for it!

I am also having an Intel Board - DH77DF and I had to copy grubx64.efi to a certain location: /boot/efi/EFI/boot/ but that wasn't enough. I also had to rename grubx64.efi to bootx64.efi.
