Re: [solved] after update - cant boot - /sbin/iinit does not exist

I didn't remove any packages at all, there was no need to. I've been using pure systemd for months now. Exact procedure : booted up, checked the news feed, ran through the instructions, closed the terminal after the commands were complete, opened a new terminal to run some other command, received error about not finding bash, hit a hard reboot.

yungtrizzle, no errors at all? No changes in the bootloader? You have systemd-sysvcompat installed, I assume? As long as the /sbin symlink exists, it should find /usr/bin/init through /sbin/init.

wait a minute, when I as asking about /bin and /sbin symlinks, I was talking about those on your actual root drive, which is mounted at new_root. cd new_root and look THERE for bin and sbin symlinks, they should both point to usr/bin. If they don't, filesystem didn't install correctly.

yungtizzle, if there are no bin and sbin symlinks, follow the directions I gave you.

What is it? try file /bin/install

this informed me its a symbolic link to /usr/bin/install

can I delete the whole directory?

If that's the only thing in /bin, then yes, delete the whole dir.

this solved it. so this damn symlink was causing all my trouble; + me reboot ignoring the fact that filesystem didn't update

sorry, I cant find the right proceedure in the link

Then read it again. The paragraph clearly implicates that your blanking of posts is strongly undesirable.

in /bin there is only 1 file called install, I guess its from the livecd? since I am chrooted this shouldnt be there?

Chrooting won't copy any files to your system. Investigate the file, it must have been created by you.

I found it undesirable to be responded with this link to a big text in the moment; especially while desesparatly trying to fix my sistem. user ewaller explained it so that I understood and edited my post in under 30 seconds ;-)
