I'm sure there's no need to install another OS. Have you tried using something other than the browser or plugins to play the video - as suggested several times in this thread - VLC, MPlayer and so on?
I'm going to activate pedant-mode here; It's pepper-flash. Perhaps some autocorrect function is responsible for that, but I couldn't ignore it, as spelling and syntax - particularly with Unix/Linux - is important.

off-topic, but related. From youtube's perspective as the website owner, how would they differentiate between an end user who is streaming (presumably with buffering) & a user who is downloading content.
Would the 2 users look identical to them ? I ask out of total ignorance..never ran a website, nevermind a video streaming one.
ps to the mods here: not seeking an answer in order to circumvent anyone's security, just out of mild curiosity.
