brilliant, I gotta say, I allowed gnome to reinstall those user groups myself (cheating a bit I know) by repeating the steps outlined by jrussell after having merged the pac files and it's all ok now, thanks everyone!

You should just make sure you know how and what to merge with these pac files, it's quite important, but otherwise just start a new thread and someone should be able to help you quickly.
