dotfiles are not "hidden" on Linux, though - not unless you use a file manager which hides half your system from you as OS X's tries/tried to do. (Obviously, people quickly discovered how to switch this "feature" off.)

Wasn't saying that, but referring to Dolphin's trash dialog from previous screenshots in this thread. Dolphin shows trash dotfiles in its file browser but not so well in its trash dialog.
trash settings dialog is just fine
It conceals the location of the trash folder behind a cryptic "trash:/" URI of its own design (or KDE's). Dolphin follows the FreeDesktop spec but hides said results from the user. It's a minor quibble. Dolphin is a great app.
As for akonadi + nepomuk that's a religious debate. Let's just say whole camps forked off to avoid them (razor-qt etc.). Even the basic KDE desktop has been crashing lately....the last thing KDE needs is MySQL bloat and complexity.
