Sure, but maybe we should add a line saying: "if you're positive you're pasting the correct answer and it still doesn't work, try again in a couple hours / tomorrow" etc.
A corner case of e.g. 10% attempts is not really a corner case anymore.

Yep, seems to be fine. You said you tried it minutes after he posted, but he didn't say when he tried logging in with it. It could have been hours before.

I've e-mailed him. I would like to make sure we're not trolling people who would like to register on the forums. :-)

Edit: There's also a chance that somebody is trolling us, saying "it doesn't work", when he didn't even try or when he was successful.

When he requested the report be closed, the reason was something like "UTC on my server was wrong", so it apparently worked.

A suggestion to check your clock and/or try again later sounds like a good idea to me.

I'm not sure if people who are watching (are subscribed to) the reports get notifications about reopening / closing requests. Maybe only the people the report is assigned to get them.
The last two notifications about this bug report I got were
* your comment yesterday
* closing the report as 'Not a bug' today.

How about that, I'd never actually noticed the History tab. I just happened to be checking through reports after he made the request and before it was closed.

I got a response.
His English isn't very good, but I think he says it might have been his UTC clock set the wrong way and now it's OK and he managed to register.

Hello and sorry for digging out an old post.
Today I've tried to register on this precious forum and walked into this crazy, easy question...

Because I've never used this "thing" (command) before I just copy pasted it into my putty SSH terminal, but nothing ever appeared.

Copy pasted the command from there, got a hash back which one worked in registration to forum.

I think there is something wrong with the command in forum registration.

If nothing was returned, it is more likely you omitted to copy the closing quote.
