On my system the upgrade to 4.2.18 presented a slightly different error profile. The modules would start and my VMs would start. During the boot process for a wide vareity of OSs the VM would abort. Downgrading to 4.2.16 resolved the issue for now.

I had problems with my virtual machines also after the latest upgrade. They are starting but before the loading completed they were shuting down.
The problem was the VirtualBox Extension Pack for the USB2. The latest VirtualBox needs the new USB2 Extension Pack. Download the latest version from here or go to the download section of www.virtualbox.org and download the VirtualBox 4.3.16 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack.
After that, start the VirtualBox, select File -> Preferences... -> Extensions. Remove the old version of extension and add the new one.
I hope that will work for you also...
