Re: [SOLVED] PulseAudio Volume Control won't start anymore

You did 'pacman -Qi gtkmm'  but pavucontrol depends on gtkmm3, what's the output of 'pacman -Q gtkmm3'?

Here:

pacman -Q gtkmm3 pavucontrol
gtkmm3 3.10.0-1
pavucontrol 2.0-2

Hi, I think this could be the problem, my output is different:

 [root@ACDCROCKS-ARCH_LINUX miniclip22]# pacman -Q gtkmm3
gtkmm3 3.10.0-1

@miniclip22
Output looks the same to me. Make sure you use an up-to-date mirror, do a 'pacman -Syyu' and update *everything*, don't do partial updates. Make sure you are not replacing packages from the official repos with anything from the AUR.

If that doesn't work I would probably try getting all the dependencies of pavucontrol with pactree and reinstall all dependencies. Also make sure you didn't modify the filesystem structure by replacing directories with symlinks or symlinks with directories. It works fine for almost everyone else so it must be something you have changed.

It is also a good idea to create another unprivileged/"normal" user to test this things, that way you guarantee that there are no stale per-user configuration files breaking things. Also, running a full DE as root is always a *bad* idea.

Hi, I have updated recently everything,  always from the official repositories unless the package I won't isn't available there. Also, I always run as a "normal" user, and then in the terminal I run as super user.

As for  "getting all the dependencies of pavucontrol with pactree and reinstall all dependencies", care to explain how I do that? big_smile

Thanks in advance!

SOLVED! Here's how: I first looked into ALL dependencies of pavucontrol, as suggested:

  pactree -c -a -l -u pavucontrol

Then, after reinstalling several dependencies, something happened:

 :: gtk3 and gtk3-appmenu are in conflict. Remove gtk3-appmenu? [y/N] y

So I removed gtk3-appmenu (from the AUR) and installed gtk3. Pavucontrol now works! Thanks for all your help!

P.S.: I can't mark this thread as SOLVED because I didn't start it.
