No the fact that clutter now ships with the buffer-age patch fixed it.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

Is this considered fixed now? Because I still get quite a lot of glitches. With the latest clutter update (and before that, with the patch) it's gotten better but the glitches have not vanished completely. Most annoying of all is that when I rename a file in Nautilus, the on-screen name is consistently one character behind my input. Other GTK applications like LibreOffice behave strangely as well, with parts of dialog boxes disappearing or updating sluggishly.

Has anyone had problems downgrading using the instructions here -

After downgrading the packages and rebooting, X no longer starts for me.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

Me neither, that's why I bear with the bug for now. Is there a bug report in clutter bugtracker? I couldn't manage to find one. I filled a bug report on Arch Linux bugtracker, here : https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39371?project=1&cat
It seems that we have to report it back to upstream...

[Edit] Ok, after investigation the bug on clutter bugtracker is closed. I tried to re-compile clutter but it still doesn't work as expected. Does anyone experience this bug on clutter 1.7?

You also need to downgrade mesa to 10.0.3-1.

Alright, that means waiting for 1.16.6 then, I guess.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

I had same issue after upgrading to the latest version of nvidia driver. For me the solution was to set the PowerMizer driver feature from 'adaptive' mode to 'prefer maximum performance' via nvidia-settings.

I simply added:

nvidia-settings -a GPUPowerMizerMode=1

to my kde session init script in autostart folder to make that change permanent and the problems with slow screen updating and flickering were gone.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

deltharac, that seems to solve the problem to me too. That workaround increases my laptop power consumption and heat generation, though.

EDIT: I have filed bug #728464 in gnome bugzilla, but it has got no attention so far.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

Fix finished today (not yet comitted in the main tree) :
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=728464
I tried to make a custom PKGBUILD at home but it didn't work... maybe we could have a new build with these patches?
[Edit] Well it seems they had to re-work the patches again... Don't know when all this will be over but I had enough already...

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

I still have the problem too.

I've been tolerating it because having maximum performance mode on is just too noisy with the fans going.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

Hi,

It seems that nVidia is at last working on the problems which prevent the merging of GNOME team's patches:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi … 3/#4265593

Still, we have no ETA and this bug is getting on my nerves...

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

You can try to force synchronization between X and GLX, which is at least working in Compiz. It repaints the whole screen instead of just parts.

Thanks for suggesting this. I have been having this problem too and enabling the force synchronization workaround in Compiz does help immensely. There are still some flickers but nowhere near as bad as before. A decent fix for the time being.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

Is there any light at the end of the tunnel for this. I'm currently on GNOME 3.14 and my graphics card is a GeForce GTX 580.

I'm getting the problem of the screen not up dating until I move the mouse, firefox glitches where a page will flicker between current and background content.

The screen updating one is particulary annoying as it makes gnome seem incredible slow as you click on something, goto another folder and nothing seems to happen until you move the mouse to the relavant area

(None of these problems occur with KDE4)

From the links to various bug trackers and the Nvidia forums, Nvidia is aware and working on the issue but no word on an ETA for a fix. Sit tight and check back in a year.

Re: Graphical glitches in Firefox under Gnome Shell, Nvidia

Hi, just a message to tell users affected by this bug that they ought to tell their dissatisfaction to nVidia, as they have yet to give us a reply. It's already been 6 months since patches are ready on GNOME's side, I think we've been more than patient about this issue.

Send your messages here, maybe they will cease to ignore us:
