Re: Arch Instable...? well it is now....i think it got fixed...

Hmmm i have an idea.....my wireless card has a "sleep" mode feature...where it turns itself off after being idle for so long. do u think that for some reason its coming on and messing things up??? because ive noticed that alot of things mess up if i unplug the card while it is on....and would acpi have anything to do with that? I dont have this issue with anyother linux distro so w/e it is is probably something related to the way arch handles somethin......any ideas???

Possibly.

Did you tried using the latest stock kernel with the "acpi=off" option?  You could also try to downgrade your kernel to 2.6.14.x.  I only had these freeze with kernels of version 2.6.15.x

yes it froze with 2.6.14 kernel as well. no i havent yet tried the acpi=off trick yet, i am  editing the bootloader to do that right now....do other distros (ie Ubuntu & Fedora have this turned off?)

It's weird, i have never had hard freezes with either Arch, ubuntu, debian freebsd etc... and i have (almost) the same laptop as snowman roll hmmm i think it won't freeze for you if you turn acpi off, try booting with

acpi=off

(just add it to the end of ur kernel line in grub/lilo)
