I bet they have heard enough complaints about this matter anyway way before 3.12..I think they were over-whelmed when GNOME 3.0 came out that they decided I would be more convenient for them not to have one. In addition, I have never seen an official forum.
I heard they want to enable participation...

Oh. That's why my awesome wm desktop looks like shit now. I just wondered, wtf happened.

I could live with client-side decorations if I could disable the window shadows. They just don't fit in my tiling scheme.

For issues with compton, shadowing and borders, see this issue and solution:

I feel there will be another six months of juggling around with various apps to replace evince,brasero, file-roller, and all the other Gnome apps that I use with XFCE.
PS: By the way, I've just noticed that Gnome's Calculator has fallen too.EDIT: funniest thing: EOG uses the window decorator I want, but if I open the Help > About menu item (I think it is About in english), it uses it's OWN decoration.
Let's call it consistency. Or a "mature release".
A while back I looked into replacing some gtk3 apps (and some heavier apps) on my system. I ended up going this route / here are my recommendations:
evince -> qpdfview
brasero -> xfburn (actually made this switch long ago)
Gnome Calculator -> speedcrunch (for simple calculations), qalculate-gtk-nognome (for algebraic equations)
eog -> viewnior (still supports mouse scroll to zoom)
network-manager-applet -> network-manager-applet-gtk2
file-roller -> file-roller2-nn

Oh, compton has a problem with gtk 3.12. This didn't come to my mind. Thanks for the hint.

Thanks for this suggestion! I'd never heard of speedcrunch, but it seems great! Hope it makes it into the main repos at some point

I found a way to disable the shadows. I have to modify the theme and remove margin and box-shadow from ".window-frame"

@frostbittenking
Add this to you theme css
.window-frame, .window-frame:backdrop {
box-shadow: 0 0 0 black;
border-style: none;
margin: 0;
border-radius: 0;
}
.titlebar {
border-radius: 0;
}
I hope it helps. Source

Can anybody help me to find an official GNOME forum?
The problem is, I don't find it, and I do not see any negative feedbacks on their mailing lists concerning 3.12.
There is no forum; you should use the mailing lists.
But there's little point in providing negative feedback to GNOME/GTK+ when the GTK+ developers took pains to make sure all of these changes are configurable by both the theme and the desktop environment, in order to avoid precisely these complaints, which WERE justified after the 3.10 release.

ooo wrote:If the issue is gtk3 application not having decorations from window manager, it's simply because gnome/gtk+ is moving into using client side decorations everywhere.
If I'm not mistaken file-roller moved to using this design in 3.12 release, as did many of the standard gtk+ dialogs.What's happening to linux etc nowadays? Ruined!
Now I'm forced to look at a mix n match of ugly windows and nice windows? Or do they expect everyone to sit patiently until the entire OSS community rewrites in GTK3? Or will there be updated window managers that have to try and match GTK3 look?
To me it looks like the plain look X gives to windows when a proper toolkit isn't present. I'm assuming you've made sure gtk3 is installed? As removing gtk3 libs from my system replicated your problem. Also, this is obviously a bug, not really a "Linux is ruined" level issue.
I don't really know what I'm doing.

I don't know why, but I have tghe feeling, lightdm-gtk3-greeter is the next. I have an empty "header bar" on my login dialog window, and I can move it around.

Epic win. Thank you. Thought I really need to get rid of all gtk 3 stuff.

GTK3 apps are ruined on my PC too.
Zenity dialog windows and file selector windows from for example Deadbeef use the Gnome 3 decorations instead of i3-wm's decorations.

Deadbeef is GTK2 plugin capable... but the package maintainer either didn't realise, or didn't know of the impact leaving out that tiny little file to people who use lightweight WMs currently.
I've created a bug report/feature request... can you +1 it, or add a comment saying you agree etc please? https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39968
Again, it's one of the very few programs that you can include BOTH gtk2 and gtk3 support in the same package with very little overheads

I have downgraded gtk3 to 3.10.7-1 and the issue does not happen anymore, however I'd like to use the latest GTK3. Is it possible to disable the client-side decorations?
EDIT: Apps such as gnome-calculator still have the issue. Deadbeef and Zenity, and other non-gnome applications do not have this.

For what its worth, I've found that xcompmgr plays better with gtk 3.12 than compton regarding client side shadows. Best just to use the mate apps though. I noticed that pcmanfm can now integrate with engrampa !
EDIT: disregard what I said about xcompmgr working better than compton with csd - a workaround for the double shadow problem has been identified. Check the compton wiki page.

Time to start using QT applications, I guess… (It's possible to use GTK themes in QT apps.)

Downgrade to gtk3 version 3.10.7, and the problem is swept under the rug, apart from file-roller, which I just replaced with xarchiver!
spacefm is much better than pcmanfm (pcmanfm is a dead project now I think). spacefm-gtk2 is in AUR
Hopefully 3.13 they will have a "legacy_window_theme=1" option or something! I refuse to install any of the MATE apps, as they all seem to have large dependancies on MATE desktop...
$ sudo pacman -S engrampa

@dennis
pcmanfm is everything but dead. They are currently working on milestone 1.3
See also the very active bug reports:
https://sourceforge.net/p/pcmanfm/bugs/
I don't see how downgrading can be a long-term solution though.

Cool! Last I read about it must have been this far back: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.openbsd.ports/57384
Downgrading will help until either they fix the horrible mess, or themes start coming out that support all of gtk2, gtk3.10, gtk3.12+ together

Just put these bugs in the bugtracker of GTK, that way also the devs know of these problems . Or even provide patches, GTK is maintained by a few people, they can use the help.

They won't see it as bugs, they "pulled a windows 8" and chose to ruin the UI! The devs obviously just don't care about people running GTK3 software on DE/WMs other than their own...
