Just following up on my request.  The output you posted shows you don't have multiple things trying to control your NIC; this is good smile

Re: [Solved] Wifi problems: Intermittent Wi-fi connection on RTL8723BE

So having determined that I did everything correctly and the wireless is still behaving erratically do I give up using Linux on this machine? Is this a driver/kernel problem? Is is fixable? Should I put the [Unsolvable] tag on the title?

Re: [Solved] Wifi problems: Intermittent Wi-fi connection on RTL8723BE

I switched to wicd and haven't seen it happen again. wicd is far slower than netctl on initial connect though. I tried both dhcpcd, dhclient and static with my wireless connection.
But I am now using openbox with stalonetray, and cant find a tray icon for netctl. hence the switch to wicd

Do you have more than one of the connection managers listed on the table installed?

Nope only one, netctl first then I tried NetworkManager too (disabling netctl of course).
As said before I suspect there is nothing I can do and that the driver is bugged or seriously flawled. At least now it reconnects most of the times by itself and it doesn't collapse the whole network anymore.
How does it work on linux tracking bugs and fixes on driver and firmwares regarding wireless modules and stuff? (I read that this driver was included only in the 3.15 kernel. My hope is that there is room for improvement)

Re: [Solved] Wifi problems: Intermittent Wi-fi connection on RTL8723BE

Damn if this piece of crap is making me angry!
Is there a way to change driver with another version? (but which?) and determine inequivocally these crappy performances and disconnections are driver's fault and not my own?
Plus i'm noticing on rfkill list ouput

0: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
1: ideapad_bluetooth: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
2: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no
3: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: yes
	Hard blocked: no

(disregard the 'off' status as I'm connected via ethernet now)
2 wlan interfaces, with strange names, plus in /sys/module/ i see

rtl8723be/ rtl8723_common/ rtl_pci/ rtlwifi/

I guess rtl_pci is the ethernet adapter but why so many modules for wifi?
I'm grasping at straws i know, but I'm truly desperate and ready to try this laptop out of the window

Re: [Solved] Wifi problems: Intermittent Wi-fi connection on RTL8723BE

I tried using connman too, for good measure (disabling all other network-related services of course)
The connection lasted 5 whole minutes WOOOOOOT, then crashed and burned. Wasnt unable to restore it if not with a reboot

Re: [Solved] Wifi problems: Intermittent Wi-fi connection on RTL8723BE

I may have found a solution -- at least, it seems to be working for me at the moment.  It comes from entry #38 here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1240940

Configure the module in /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf with the following parameters:

options rtl8723be fwlps=0 swlps=0

You can then either reboot, or you can use modprobe -r to remove the module.  Reload the module with modprobe, restart the connection with netctl, and (maybe) call dhclient.  You should be (at least I was) back in businesss.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Solved] Wifi problems: Intermittent Wi-fi connection on RTL8723BE

Thank you. I tried that but it didn't work.
However,

Back from vacations i updated the system and now the wireless connection seems stable as a rock.
Maybe in the new kernel (currently 3.16.1-1-ARCH) they updated the device drivers...
Anyway now it works. Thanks you all.

Have a similar problem with rtl on 3.15, had to roll back to 3.14. Great news it's fixed in 3.16!
