Well, beyond didn't change anything here. Weird, I'm wondering what I am doing differently...
I didn't test a burnt image yet, I only ran the iso in qemu. I really don't want to go back to an old firefox build on my LiveCD.
Aha! I guess that's it. I just tried it out in qemu and also got your seg. fault, so it seems to be a problem relating to qemu. Might be worth burning a CD after all ...

well, in that case... (Good luck I don't get paid for all those hours I waste searching for "solutions" to problems like this ;-) )
I'll try if at least firefox-nightly is working in qemu and report back if the CD (with firefox 2 or firefox nightly) worked. Thanks for all the help, gradgrind and lilsirecho!
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.

If you are running SCIM, try setting GTK_IM_MODULE to xim. There is (was?) an incompatibility which made firefox crash, I added a patch that sets that variable to my firefox-nightly to avoid it.

Too cool. Minefield (firefox-nightly) also runs in qemu. I think I'll stick with that.
Leffe: I don't use scim, so there was no need for patching. Thanks a lot anyway!

I had the same problem. Turns out the memory was bad. (memtest86 may not pick it up - it didn't for me).

Guys, I'm having the same problem, with firefox2 from aur (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18992)
Is there any resolve for this? I don't want to end up using firefox3 because it seems not to like my system, and opera I don't like because there's too little extensibility (and doesn't do the things I want it to)

The update of FF or something fixed this for me.

I had the same problem, with firefox 3.5.3. Then I uninstalled flashplugin, and found firefox worked well.
So, I'm using gnash-common and gnash-gtk for flash playing.
