Perhaps you should post it again and include the command you have used just to be sure...

If it is really the output of `ls -l /home` then you will have to use rsync to back up the content of /home/home/dan (!), delete the contents of /home and rsync /dan back in.

I'm a bit out of my comfort zone with that though so you should probably await the input of a more expert forum member.

Yes, I'm sure its the right command, It tried it again and same output.

In terms of the content of /home/home/dan is really nothing in there as this is a pretty fresh install of arch linux so could I just remove the contents of /home and remake /home/dan with the permissions?

Also on a side note, my text seems to be like 2 times larger and I don't know what caused it.
