Re: [SOLVED] database 'pipelight' is not valid

Lone_Wolf: I followed the Installation guide. I have this problem on 2 systems. I think reinstalling both systems is a litte bit drastic. I have put time in installing a lot of applications, configuring openbox, catalyst, some packages from Aur that I build (without using yaourt),.. I only have this problem with my systems and it's not sure that reinstalling with a newer iso will resolve the issue.

Scimmia: Yes.

Re: [SOLVED] database 'pipelight' is not valid

So something mounts gnupg as tmpfs. Did you check /etc/systemd/sytem/ for a file etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount file?

Basically, can you run this:

grep -r "/etc/pacman.d/gnupg" /etc/systemd

And if you find a file,

pacman -Qo /etc/systemd/sytem/etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount

(or with the file you'll have found).

* If the grep doesn't find a file, then something else is mounting it. As Scimmia pointed it, you'll have to find out what.
* If the grep finds a file that doesn't belong to a package, something else created this file. Maybe you copied some files by mistake from the usb drive during installation? If it happened twice on two independent installations, it'd be interesting to know when the file appeared.
* If the file is part of a package, what is it?

Edit: I just pacstraped base, and as expected, no mention of such a mount file in the new installation.

EDIT #2: I just found this:
https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=3654.0

What does pacman-init do on every boot?
It mounts /etc/pacman.d/gnupg into your RAM
It generates a random key for pacman on every bootup
Due the fact a random key got generated on every bootup, you can't guess which key is currently used and your system is highly protected against key sniffing

What is the downside of this feature?
Any key you sign, for example from a 3rd party repository like mate-repositiory, gets stored in RAM. On a reboot those custom added keys to the gnupg folder are lost. You should think about disabling pacman-init.
It prevents the use of 3rd party repositories in general

I don't know anything about pacman-init, and can't find it in the official repo or the aur - is this something archlinux used to have? Or is this manjaro-specific? (Is this a manjaro installation by any chance?...)

Re: [SOLVED] database 'pipelight' is not valid

$ pkgfile pacman-init.service
extra/archboot
extra/archiso
$

It is present in archboot & archiso package, so it could still be an archlinux installation.

As this service appears to be security related maybe a package from archassault activated it ?

melody,
do you have archboot and/or archiso installed ?
please post output of systemctl status pacman-init.service & uname -a

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?

Re: [SOLVED] database 'pipelight' is not valid

Gyscos:

I have the etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount file in /etc/systemd/sytem/

grep -r "/etc/pacman.d/gnupg" /etc/systemd
/etc/systemd/system/etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount:Description=Temporary /etc/pacman.d/gnupg directory
/etc/systemd/system/etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount:Where=/etc/pacman.d/gnupg
sudo pacman -Qo /etc/systemd/system/etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount
fout:Geen pakket bezit /etc/systemd/system/etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount

The second command gave the error message that no package has(or owns) /etc/systemd/system/etc-pacman.d-gnupg.mount

I don't use manjaro, I use arch linux.

So how did it get there? Did you copy it manually? Did you use archboot to create this installation? If no package owns it, it shouldn't be there.

Edit: it seems you're only doing anything here when someone gives you an exact command to run and doing nothing else. If you want to solve this, stop being a help vampire and do some digging.

I don't know why this file is there.

I didn't use archboot to create this installation.

I downloaded the iso and then I raw-wrote it to a drive using 'dd'

Re: [SOLVED] database 'pipelight' is not valid

You're supposed to 'dd' the ISO onto a USB drive (or a CD or any storage) and use this _temporary_ installation to install the actual system, mainly through the use of pacstrap:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide

Did you actually follow the guide, or did you directly copy the image to the disk you are now booting from?

Re: [SOLVED] database 'pipelight' is not valid

Hey Gyscos,

The guide you mention just says: "Finally, the image can be burned to a CD, mounted as an ISO file, or written to a USB stick."

It doesn't say how you should do those things.

I followed these instructions for writing the iso to a drive:

https://projects.archlinux.org/archiso. … 7ccd33ad11

And I found these instructions in this topic: Making an UEFI/BIOS ISO should be KISS

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ta … tion_media

I used the specific syntax:

sudo dd if=/path/to/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M; sync

This is just the shorter version from:

sudo dd bs=4M if=/path/to/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdx && sync

mentioned in this thread:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … a#Using_dd

Then I rebooted , pressed F8, picked the drive that contained the arch linux iso, and then I started folowing these pre-installation steps from your guide:

Set the keyboard layout, Partition the disks, Format the partitions,...

No one else on this forum seems to have experienced my problem before.

So probably I did something wrong during the pre-installation or during the configuration of the system.

The truth is that I don't wan't to invest more time in this issue.

So I will mark this thread as solved.

I would like to thank everyone for their support.
